2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country is your rugged subcompact EV

  • The Volvo EX30 lineup has been expanded with a rugged Cross Country model
  • U.S. sales are scheduled to start later in 2025
  • Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch

The Volvo EX30 has officially started reaching customers in the U.S., though for now, only a flagship EX30 Twin Motor Performance variant is available. Additional versions of the electric subcompact crossover are set to arrive soon, including the adventure-ready EX30 Cross Country, which debuted in Sweden on Monday.

Volvo previewed the EX30 Cross Country’s design with a concept in 2023, and the production model has changed little since then. It features increased ground clearance compared to the regular EX30, along with 18-inch wheels that can be fitted with all-terrain tires. Volvo plans to bundle these tires with additional accessories such as a load carrier, roof basket, and mudflaps, offering them in Cross Country Experience packages.

The EX30 Cross Country also stands out with dark panels at the front and rear, along with dark wheel arch protectors, and skid plates. On the front panel, Volvo has added a topographic representation of the Kebnekaise mountain range in northern Sweden, which the company says often serves as inspiration for its designers.

Inside, the design remains unchanged from the regular EX30. Owners will find ample storage space, including extra-large compartments in the doors, made possible by relocating traditional door-mounted speakers to a dashboard-mounted soundbar. A sliding central storage tunnel doubles as a cupholder or additional storage, and in the cargo area, a guide with measurements helps with packing large objects. The infotainment system features Google built-in.

A dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, referred to by the automaker as a Twin Motor powertrain, will come standard. However, Volvo has not yet announced its power rating. All EX30 models at present come with a 69-kwh battery, and this will likely be the case for the EX30 Cross Country.

More details should be released soon, as Volvo stated that the EX30 Cross Country will be available in U.S. showrooms later this year, likely arriving as a 2026 model. Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch.

Though not yet confirmed, the EX30 Cross Country for the U.S. will likely be sourced from a Volvo plant in Belgium to avoid steep tariffs on EX30s currently produced in China. Volvo expects to begin EX30 production at the Belgian plant in the first half of 2025.

The EX30 is one of five new Volvos arriving in 2025. Others will include an ES90 electric midsize sedan and a long-range plug-in hybrid.
