Alpine adds new A110 models for sports car’s final year

  • U.S.-bound Alpine has unveiled the A110 R 70 and A110 GTS special editions
  • The cars arrive 12 months before production of the A110 ends
  • An electric A110 is planned for later this decade

France’s Alpine on Wednesday confirmed that production of the A110 will come to an end in 12 months, marking the conclusion of an era for the mid-engine sports car.

To celebrate this milestone, Alpine is rolling out special editions, including the newly revealed A110 R 70 and A110 GTS, both of which also commemorate the brand’s 70th anniversary this year.

These new models arrive just months after the debut of the A110 R Ultime, a flagship limited edition that also serves as a final send-off for the A110 lineup.

The A110 R 70, the last of the track-focused A110 R models, will be built in a limited run of 770 cars. It retains the 300-hp version of Alpine’s mid-mounted 1.8-liter turbo-4, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive like all other A110s. Performance enhancements include lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork (including for the wheels), a high-flow Akrapovič exhaust, and Michelin Cup 2 tires for added grip. Inside, the cabin features custom details and 70th-anniversary logos. Additionally, an ultra-exclusive R 70 Tricolor version will be available, painted in one of the three colors of the French flag.

The A110 GTS replaces the previous GT and S models, retaining the sporty chassis setup of the S variant. The big upgrade for the GTS is its available aero kit, inspired by the hardcore R model. This package includes a front splitter, side skirts, a rear spoiler, and a rear wing, enhancing both downforce and stability. Like the A110 R 70, the GTS is also powered by the 300-hp turbo-4.

Both models will be available for order starting in May in markets where Alpine operates.

The A110 originally debuted in 2017, reviving the Alpine brand after a 22-year hiatus. While its production is winding down, Alpine has already confirmed an electric successor set to arrive later this decade. This new electric A110 will be one of seven new models, joining the recently launched A290 hot hatch and upcoming A390 compact crossover. Looking ahead, Alpine plans to expand into the luxury performance SUV segment, with models targeting the Porsche Macan and Cayenne. This expansion will play a key role in Alpine’s U.S. market debut, expected around 2027. A supercar is also in the pipeline.
