Mercedes-AMG reportedly plans electric supercar concept for 2025

A couple of years ago, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the striking Vision One-Eleven concept, an electric supercar built as a homage to the series of C111 technology demonstrators introduced in the late 1960s and the following decade.

On Monday, Autocar reported that the automaker’s AMG skunkworks will unveil another electric supercar concept around mid-2025, possibly featuring design and technology destined for a rumored production version expected later this decade.

The concept will reportedly follow the same philosophy as the EQXX electric sedan concept, which pushed the boundaries of range, achieving close to 750 miles on a single charge using current liquid-type lithium-ion batteries.

However, the new supercar concept will reportedly push the limits of EV speed—particularly acceleration—and may feature a next-generation battery using solid-state technology. This technology is being developed by Mercedes in partnership with U.S.-based Factorial, Autocar reported, citing an anonymous senior insider. Mercedes is currently testing an EQS prototype fitted with solid-state technology.

“Where the EQXX aimed to go the furthest, this aims to go the fastest,” the source said. “It will be the fastest-accelerating car AMG has ever produced.”

Currently, the quickest AMG model is the One hypercar, with a 0-60 mph time well below three seconds.

The insider also indicated that the new concept won’t be a huge design departure from the previous Vision One-Eleven concept.

While production plans for an AMG electric supercar remain uncertain, AMG is on the verge of launching its first dedicated electric performance car since the SLS AMG Electric Drive a decade ago. An electric alternative to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is due next year, followed shortly by a full-size SUV. Prototypes for both models are currently undergoing testing.
