Mercedes-Benz S-Class recalled for potentially faulty brakes

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for certain versions of the current-generation S-Class due to a potential brake fluid leak, which could lead to longer stopping distances, and thus increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall affects specific S-Class models from the 2021-2023 model years, including those from the Maybach ultra-luxury division. The affected models include the S 500, S 580, S 580e, Maybach S 580, and Maybach S 680.

In total, 20,339 vehicles are affected in the U.S.

According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on Feb. 24 (recall campaign number 25V116000), the front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid, particularly in vehicles operating in hot and humid climates.

Mercedes said it became aware of the issue in late 2023 after receiving individual reports but stated that it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect.

The remedy requires dealers to replace the front brake hoses, a service that will be performed free of charge.

Affected owners will be notified by mail starting April 25. Anyone seeking further information can contact Mercedes at 1-800-367-6372 or visit the automaker’s recall page.
