Hyundai revealed the exterior and interior design of the all-new Tucson for the first time, and it already looks like a big upgrade.

Meet the new Hyundai Tucson

It’s been six years since Hyundai launched the current fourth-generation Tucson. For the fifth-gen model, Hyundai is taking the SUV to the next level.

The new Hyundai Tucson has grown up and now looks more like a traditional SUV, with a wide, boxy stance.

The new look is based on Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design, the same design philosophy behind the off-road Boulder Concept from the New York Auto Show earlier this year.

Hyundai’s bold off-road-like design is becoming its signature, similar to the new look that Kia has created over the past few years.

Up front, the redesigned Tucson features new vertical “H-edge” daytime running lights and a slim horizontal light bar. Hyundai said the lights in the bar are not directly exposed on the outside, helping to create the bold, three-dimensional look.

The rear features a prism rear lamp with a three-dimensional protruding lens structure. When illuminated, the lamp is revealed, adding “visual three-dimensionality.”

The new Hyundai Tucson measures 4,700 mm (185″) long, 1,905 mm (75″) wide, and 1,685 mm (66″) high, with a 2,785 mm (110″) wheelbase.

Compared to the current model, the new Tucson is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and has a 40 mm longer wheelbase. The increased dimensions open up “best-in-class interior space,” according to Hyundai.

The interior is fully redesigned, with a new floating structure to open up space and a large center infotainment screen.

Hyundai equipped the new Tucson with its next-gen Pleos Connect infotainment system. The setup includes a large center display with apps and customizable screens, plus a slim driver display.

The new Tucson will be available with Hyundai’s XRT trim, which adds to the rugged, off-road design. Added design elements include an exclusive front grille, wheels, and skid plates, black wheel arch garnishes, and XRT badging.

Inside, the Tucson XRT features exclusive patterned seats, dark metal decor, and protective floor mats for the first and second rows.

Hyundai has yet to reveal powertrain details, but like the current Tucson, the new version is expected to be sold as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, not pure electric.

While the Tucson likely won’t be offered with a fully electric powertrain, Hyundai still offers the IONIQ 5, which is about the same size. We will have to wait until closer to launch for the full details.
