Kia’s off-road electric SUV might be real after all. New patent images reveal what could be the production version of the EV9 ADVNTR.
Is Kia bringing the off-road electric SUV to life?
We got our first look at the EV9 ADVNTR almost two years ago at the 2024 SEMA show. Kia said the electric SUV concept was built for the outdoors with off-road modifications like a custom roof rack, reinforced rocker panels, and rugged all-terrain tires.
The roof rack can carry extra luggage, or you can pop up a roof-mounted tent for an overnight stay almost anywhere.
Kia’s adventure vehicle concept also featured modified front and rear bumpers compared to the standard EV9, adding to the rugged design. Meanwhile, tow hooks are added to the front, just in case you get stuck.
A recent patent filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) by Hyundai Motor Company offers a closer look at what could be the production version of the Kia EV9 AVNTR.
The patent, first uncovered by the folks at CarBuzz, reveals six images of the electric off-road SUV from all angles.
While no powertrain details were revealed, the current most powerful Kia EV9 packs up to 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque from dual electric motors. The long-range 99.8 kWh battery provides an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 304 miles.
Whether Kia will bring the electric off-roader to life remains unconfirmed. With growing demand for more capable adventure vehicles, it would likely find its niche.
Several automakers, including Hyundai Motor, Ford, Toyota, and even luxury brands like BMW, Genesis, and Mercedes-Benz, are targeting the off-road market, with higher margins on specialized models.
