Lucid (LCID) delivered 3,806 vehicles in the third quarter, down 7% from a year ago. It built only 2,954, a 38% cut from the previous quarter and its lowest production since early 2025.

The automaker says that’s on purpose. New CEO Silvio Napoli is selling down the unsold cars Lucid piled up in the first half of the year, and Q3 is the first quarter of 2026 in which it delivered more vehicles than it built.

Lucid Q3 deliveries and production

Lucid released its Q3 numbers today, a month ahead of its earnings report on November 9.

Deliveries slipped 4% from the 3,953 vehicles Lucid handed over in Q2, and 7% from the 4,078 it delivered in Q3 2025. Production fell much harder, from 4,774 vehicles in Q2 to 2,954.

Q3 2026 2,954 3,806

On paper, production is down 24% from a year ago. It’s worse than that. In Q3 2025, Lucid reported the 1,000-plus vehicles it shipped to Saudi Arabia for final assembly separately, and since the start of 2026 it counts everything that leaves its Arizona factory. Count both quarters the same way and production is down about 40%.

None of this is a surprise. Lucid eliminated the second shift at its Casa Grande plant in June when it laid off 18% of its staff, and it withdrew its target of building 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles this year. Nine months in, it has built 13,228 and delivered 10,852.

Lucid’s inventory selloff

In the first half of 2026, Lucid built 3,228 more vehicles than it delivered. Most of that came in Q1, when a supplier problem with second-row seats held up Gravity deliveries for 29 days while the factory kept running.

In Q3, deliveries beat production by 852 vehicles. That’s about a quarter of the first-half pile.

Selling those cars is the biggest piece of Napoli’s “operating reset,” which targets $1.4 billion in cash flow improvements in 2026. Lucid expects $600 million to $800 million of that to come from inventory, about $500 million from lower capital spending, and roughly $200 million from operating costs. Its balance sheet showed $1.38 billion in inventory at the end of June, up from $1.11 billion six months earlier.

Lucid also said that demand for the Gravity “continued to regain momentum.” It didn’t put a number on it, and it doesn’t break out deliveries by model.

For comparison, Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in Q3 as the R2 ramped up. That’s five times Lucid’s total.

Electrek’s Take

Cutting production is the right call. Lucid is losing about $1 billion a quarter, and building cars nobody has ordered only makes that worse. Napoli inherited the stockpile, and he’s dealing with it.

Based on the previously reported quarters, Lucid still has thousands of unsold cars to move and a Gravity that’s supposedly back in demand, and it still delivered fewer vehicles than a year ago. To be fair, Q3 2025 got a boost from US buyers rushing in before the federal tax credit expired. Rivian faced the same comparison and grew by more than 40% because it had a new product to sell.

And nothing is coming soon to change that. The Cosmos is delayed to the second half of 2027, and the robotaxi deals with Uber and Bolt won’t move real volume for years. So Lucid has to get through at least another year on the Air and the Gravity at under 4,000 deliveries a quarter. The inventory selloff helps the cash position, but it only works for so long.
