Tesla hikes Cybertruck prices up to 10% after announcing it will kill production

Tesla has raised Cybertruck prices in the US by up to 10% and stopped taking orders for the base Dual Motor AWD trim. The cheapest Cybertruck you can actually order now costs $92,490.

The move comes right after Tesla confirmed it will end Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around mid-2027.

The new Cybertruck prices

Here’s what Tesla’s online configurator shows today, compared to the prices set in August:

  • Dual Motor AWD: $82,490, up from $74,990 (+$7,500, 10%), but no longer orderable
  • Premium AWD: $92,490, up from $84,990 (+$7,500, 8.8%)
  • Cyberbeast: $102,490, up from $99,990 (+$2,500, 2.5%)

The Dual Motor trim still shows a new, higher price on Tesla’s website, but the option is greyed out. So Tesla raised the price of a version it isn’t selling anymore.

This is the second price hike in less than three months. Tesla raised prices by $5,000 on two trims in August, when the Dual Motor went from $69,990 to $74,990 and the Premium AWD from $79,990 to $84,990.

Add it up and the Premium AWD is now $12,500 (15.6%) more expensive than it was in early August. And the entry price for any Cybertruck you can order went from $69,990 to $92,490. That’s a 32% jump in about 10 weeks.

For reference, Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in 2019 with a promised starting price of $39,900.

Higher prices on a truck nobody’s buying

The price hikes make little sense from a demand standpoint. Tesla doesn’t break out Cybertruck deliveries, but its “Other Models” category, which also includes the Model S, Model X, and Semi, fell 48% year-over-year to 8,295 units in Q3. We estimate Cybertrucks made up 7,000 to 8,000 of those, about 12% of the line’s 250,000-unit annual capacity.

Tesla also tried the opposite approach earlier this year. It offered a dual-motor Cybertruck at $59,990 in February for “only the next 10 days,” then pulled it. A single-motor RWD version was discontinued after just 173 sales. None of it moved the needle.

The Cybertruck isn’t sold in Europe or most right-hand-drive markets, and Tesla canceled it for Australia and New Zealand last month.

Electrek’s Take

This is what a wind-down looks like. Tesla isn’t trying to sell more Cybertrucks anymore. It’s trying to make as much money as possible on the last ones, with the hope that announcing the end of production will encourage some people to secure their order.

Once you’ve decided to end a program, volume stops mattering. You have a set number of build slots left, a parts supply you want to burn down, and probably a small group of fans who’ll want one before it’s gone. Pausing the cheapest trim and charging $7,500 more for the rest is the obvious play. You push everyone into higher-margin configurations and stop pretending the base truck is a real product.

But it does say a lot about the last two years of Cybertruck pricing. Tesla went from a $59,990 “limited-time” offer in February to a $92,490 entry price in November. That’s a company that never figured out who the truck was for.
