Yes, the electric vehicle price war has likely begun.  Last month’s Tesla price cuts slashed up to 20% of the cost to buy the EV maker’s vehicles. Then in a rare move, Ford dropped prices on its Mustang Mach-E lineup last week by up to 9%.  Those first dramatic shots over the bow are almost certainly not the end of it. Recent financial updates from Ford, Tesla, and others suggest that there’s growing pressure to cut prices on EVs—or at least to stop raising them. Automaker executives and industry analysts have made some more sobering remarks about what that means.…

Lamborghini has rolled out a pair of one-off supercars that will go down in history as the automaker’s last to be powered solely by a V-12 engine, at least as far as road cars are concerned. The new Invencible coupe and Auténtica roadster revealed on Monday are both based on Lamborghini’s Aventador supercar, which bowed out of production last September. Lamborghini said it involved the customer from the very beginning of the project to arrive at the final design for both cars. Lamborghini is weeks out from launching its successor to the Aventador, a car that will pack a newly…

Michael Mann’s upcoming Ferrari movie is of particular interest in the Car and Driver offices. That’s in part because, well, Ferraris, but even more so because it’s based on the book Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine by a longtime C/D editor, the late Brock Yates.IPAY/SPLASHNEWS.COMBrock published his book in 1991 and had plans to bring it to the big screen. But like exotic sports cars, movies can be hard to get off the drawing board. No screenwriting newbie, Brock already had financial (if not critical) success with 1981’s Cannonball Run. He drew the interest of A-list directors Mann…

Several automakers have shown renewed interest in joining Formula 1 as the sport ratchets up its sustainability focus while growing its audience in new regions, particularly in the U.S., which will host three races in 2023. BMW’s next-generation EVs will be built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, as well as two European production sites, the automaker confirmed in a press release Friday. That may allow these new EVs, and their related battery production facility, to qualify for U.S. tax credits and supply-chain incentives. These models, based on a dedicated platform and christened Neue Klasse (German for “new class”) in reference to a family of models from the 1960s that set the template for modern BMWs, will launch in 2025 and will initially be assembled in Debrecen, Hungary, followed by BMW’s main plant in Munich, Germany. BMW…

BMW’s next-generation EV family code-named Neue Klasse will include North America as one of its production sites. The automaker last week announced an investment of 800 million euros (approximately $860 million) to expand its vehicle plant in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, where the automaker currently builds the 2-Series and 3-Series. The latest investment will see production facilities added for Neue Klasse EVs and batteries, the latter featuring BMW’s denser round-cell format. Around 1,000 jobs are expected to be created once the expanded plant is at full capacity. BMW said one of the key decisions for choosing the…
