Ford has been spotted testing a prototype for a new Edge crossover. The current Edge has been on sale since the 2015 model year and could certainly use a redesign. However, the Edge in our spy shots has been developed specifically for the Chinese market and thus isn’t expected to reach the U.S. The U.S.-spec Edge is expected to bow out later this year. Ford has been quiet on the future of the nameplate in the U.S. but an electric successor—twinned with a successor to the Lincoln Nautilus—is possible as the Edge’s Oakville Ford Assembly Plant in Canada is due to…
On Monday, Ford reduced prices for the Mustang Mach-E for the 2023 model year, and boosted production of the electric crossover SUV. Prices dropped across the board, although some versions get bigger reductions than others. The base Select rear-wheel drive Standard Range model received a $900 cut to $47,495 including the mandatory $1,500 destination charge. With all-wheel drive, the price cut is only $600, bringing the MSRP to $50,495. Higher-level models get much bigger price cuts. The base price of the California Route 1 with all-wheel drive and the Extended Range battery pack drops $5,580 to $59,495 with destination, while…
Jay Leno doesn’t own Ferraris, but he still likes to have them on his Jay Leno’s Garage YouTube show. This episode features a true Prancing Horse classic—a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona. The car is owned by Ferrari collector David Lee, who also brought his Ferrari 288 GTO and restomodded Dino to the garage for previous episodes. While those cars are also impressive, no Ferrari collection would be complete without a Daytona. 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona on Jay Leno’s Garage The Daytona was unveiled in 365 GTB4 coupe form at the 1968 Frankfurt auto show as the replacement for…

Hello there and welcome to the first edition of the TTAC Quick Drive. This is basically a short version of a car review that we will apply either when a test vehicle doesn’t really need a full review (perhaps its a mild refresh and mechanically unchanged) or we didn’t get a lot of miles on a car (perhaps we drive a vehicle at an event for only 15 minutes). We may also use this to preview the full review of a vehicle that will publish later. This doesn’t mean we still won’t do the longer reviews. This format exists to fill…
BMW will start testing this year a solid-state battery developed in partnership with U.S. battery technology company Solid Power, the automaker said this month. BMW has been working with Solid Power on a solid-state battery for automotive applications since at least 2017. In the latest phase of their partnership, BMW will also build prototype versions of Solid Power’s battery at its own battery lab near Munich, Germany. Actual testing of the batteries in a prototype vehicle is scheduled for before 2025. BMW has previously said that a vehicle with solid-state batteries could reach showrooms by around 2030. Solid Power solid-state…
Ford announced Monday morning that it’s lowering prices up to $5,900 on the 2023 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle. The price change undoes some but not all of the hefty price increase of up to $8,300 that Ford applied just a few months ago to the 2023 Mustang Mach-E, and it brings one more popular model—the Premium eAWD Standard Range—under the $55,000 ceiling. Factoring in the tax credit of $7,500 that’s likely good until sometime in March, when the Treasury Department is expected to start enforcing domestic sourcing requirements, the bottom-line, destination-included price of that version will effectively be $47,795 for…
The SCCA Trans Am series achieved iconic status in the late 1960s and early ’70s. On this episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage,” Jay Leno, NASCAR commentator Mike Joy, and historic racer Ken Epsman look at some of the cars that made that era of Trans Am racing so special. We learn quite a bit about the history of Trans Am racing along the way. Attempting to expand beyond amateur racing with a pro series, the SCCA launched Trans Am in 1966. The series initially featured modified production cars in two classes: those with engines displacing less than 2.0 liters, and…

Electric cars are all the rage these days with numerous automakers having already announced plans to phase out the tried and true combustion engine. While large, throaty gas engines defined the supercar industry for many decades, the future is electric. Fact is, it’s nearly impossible to beat the performance of electric engines, especially in terms of acceleration.
