Michael Mann’s upcoming Ferrari movie is of particular interest in the Car and Driver offices. That’s in part because, well, Ferraris, but even more so because it’s based on the book Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine by a longtime C/D editor, the late Brock Yates.IPAY/SPLASHNEWS.COMBrock published his book in 1991 and had plans to bring it to the big screen. But like exotic sports cars, movies can be hard to get off the drawing board. No screenwriting newbie, Brock already had financial (if not critical) success with 1981’s Cannonball Run. He drew the interest of A-list directors Mann…
Several automakers have shown renewed interest in joining Formula 1 as the sport ratchets up its sustainability focus while growing its audience in new regions, particularly in the U.S., which will host three races in 2023. Audi is already confirmed to enter as a constructor via a partnership with existing team Sauber (currently competing as Alfa Romeo), while Ford last week forged a technical partnership with current champion Red Bull Racing. Despite its failure to secure a deal with Red Bull, Porsche has said it remains keen to enter F1, including potentially as a constructor, and Cadillac has also confirmed…
Pros: Well-equipped; handsome interior; sharp exterior styling; solid towing capacity Cons: No hybrid option; cramped third row; there are better three-rows for the price The 2023 Infiniti QX60 is relevant and worth considering for the first time in a long while. It’s based on the proficient Nissan Pathfinder, and Infiniti brings a lot of good to the table with this three-row SUV. The design is immediately eye-catching, as the curvaceous body panels blend and wrap around this rear, giving it a very sleek and attractive profile. Plus, its beauty isn’t just skin deep. Infiniti ditched the old model’s frustrating CVT…
BMW’s next-generation EVs will be built in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, as well as two European production sites, the automaker confirmed in a press release Friday. That may allow these new EVs, and their related battery production facility, to qualify for U.S. tax credits and supply-chain incentives. These models, based on a dedicated platform and christened Neue Klasse (German for “new class”) in reference to a family of models from the 1960s that set the template for modern BMWs, will launch in 2025 and will initially be assembled in Debrecen, Hungary, followed by BMW’s main plant in Munich, Germany. BMW…
BMW’s next-generation EV family code-named Neue Klasse will include North America as one of its production sites. The automaker last week announced an investment of 800 million euros (approximately $860 million) to expand its vehicle plant in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí, where the automaker currently builds the 2-Series and 3-Series. The latest investment will see production facilities added for Neue Klasse EVs and batteries, the latter featuring BMW’s denser round-cell format. Around 1,000 jobs are expected to be created once the expanded plant is at full capacity. BMW said one of the key decisions for choosing the…
Electrify America plans to raise EV charging prices in March, with frequent users seeing the biggest price hike. Members of the company’s Pass+ frequent charging program will see rates increase to $0.36 per kwh, while non-members will pay $0.48 per kwh. Both rates increase by $0.05 kwh, but Pass+ members also pay a $4.00 a month fee (which remains unchanged), and they’ll effectively see a 15% rate increase with the fee factored in. Price-per-minute rates are also going up. Customers will now be billed at $0.15 per minute for charging at up to 90 kw (a $0.03 increase) and $0.29…
Volkswagen has been spotted testing prototypes for an updated version of its Touareg mid-size SUV. The Touareg disappeared from U.S. shores after 2017, prior to the current third-generation model being launched. The SUV is now about to receive an update that will be revealed later this year as a 2024 model, and no, the nameplate isn’t returning to these shores. The update will be mild, judging by the prototype. Look for a revised front end with new designs for the headlights, grille and front fascia. These elements are partially camouflaged but we can see that the intakes in the front…
If you own an electric car or want to purchase one soon, you’ll need to know what EV incentives exist that can help you defray costs. Many states offer rebates and tax deductions to make the transition to electric vehicles more attractive, like electricity discounts or bill credits. These bonuses can also apply to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles, electric motorcycles, and more. This article will outline the incentives available in each state. Because state incentives continue to evolve, we plan to update as new information becomes available. See our story on federal incentives to find out…

Given the company’s now-defunct status, you could argue that all Saabs are future classics. Even the final round of cars from the era of General Motors ownership deserve their place in history. Seriously, how hot was the last 9-5? Handsome design and quirky features were hallmarks of the Saab brand, and its cars felt every bit as premium as its primary European competitors. But while other luxury carmakers put great effort into full lineups of performance cars, Sweden only produced the odd sporty Saab every once in a while. One of our favorites was the 9-3 Viggen from the turn…
