Honda Accord Hybrid review, Hyundai EV subscription, $2,000 EV conversion credit: The Week in Reverse
Which upcoming solar EV was crash-tested? Which EV maker is now offering a $7,500 “EV credit?” This is our look back at the Week In Reverse—right here at DriftBreath Reports—for the week ending February 11, 2023. In a first drive of the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid, we found that while this longtime top-selling sedan isn’t as distinctive as its predecessor, it’s improved in efficiency, refinement, and most measures that matter on the drive. It’s sportier, too. The Lexus RZ 450e has been priced starting at $59,650, and while that makes it no great value, this first U.S.-bound EV from Lexus…
I love G-body cars from General Motors; they’re elegant and boxy, yet pleasing to look at from all angles. The 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is one of my favorites, and this one’s been made even better by its owner, Scott Bylsma. Scott‘s introduction to cars came at a young age. Having been born with a bleeding disorder, Scott wasn’t able to do a lot of the things that most kids do growing up, so his father Tim often took him out to classic car shows or to watch some drag racing at Grand Bend Motorplex in Ontario, where his uncle raced a Chevy…
Ford is reportedly partnering with the world’s largest supplier of EV battery cells, China’s CATL, for a plant in Michigan that will produce them for upcoming Ford electric vehicles, according to Friday afternoon reports from the Detroit DriftBreath and Bloomberg. Outside of Ford’s $11.4 billion electric truck manufacturing complexes in Tennessee and Kentucky and its BlueOvalSK venture with South Korea’s SK On, the reportedly chosen site around Marshall, Michigan, may prove to be the most important industrial operation yet as the automaker seeks greater profitability from its EVs. If you’ve lusted after a Jaguar F-Pace but wanted its essence bottled-up in a smaller package, then the Jaguar E-Pace isn’t quite that car. It’s a competent member of the small premium SUV market, though, because it’s decent enough to drive, smart enough to look at, and available in a variety of configurations. Ultimately it fails to really stand out against some particularly strong rivals, in spite of a mid-life facelift bringing welcome improvements to driving feel, efficiency and the on-board infotainment set-up. Have a good long sit in one before you take the plunge, as the interior isn’t the most…

British comedian and car enthusiast Rowan Atkinson, famous for playing the character Mr. Bean, is parting with a legendary rally homologation special. The 1993 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II will be auctioned off by Silverstone Auctions on Feb. 25. The first-generation Lancia Delta had a long life as both a humble economy car and a rally special. First shown at the 1979 Frankfurt auto show, the Delta went on to compete in the World Rally Championship throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, spanning the memorable Group B and following Group A eras. Manufacturers were required to sell road-going versions…

In fact, most tracks won’t even let it run hot laps because it can’t pass the so-called “broomstick test” for rollover safety. Lotus Technology, the electric-car maker owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., agreed to merge with a blank-check company in a transaction that values the combined entity at about $5.4 billion. L Catterton Asia Acquisition Corp. will combine with the EV making subsidiary of the British carmaking group that Geely acquired back in 2017, the two said in a statement Tuesday. The special purpose acquisition company’s sponsor has ties to Bernard Arnault, the world’s richest man. Lotus Tech has been looking to go public since at least early last year.
