BMW M2 Turbo Design Edition Pays Tribute to 2002 Turbo

BMW M2 Turbo Design Edition

BMW is celebrating one of its most iconic performance cars with a special edition of its compact powerhouse, the M2 Turbo Design Edition. This exclusive variant pays homage to the legendary 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo, the automaker’s first turbocharged production car and a milestone that helped shape the brand’s performance legacy.

The new BMW M2 arrives with one clear mission: to rekindle the spirit of the 2002 Turbo while delivering the raw, driver-focused experience BMW M fans love. Available only with a six-speed manual transmission, the coupe is a purist’s dream. Its design features a hand-painted livery inspired by the 2002 Turbo, complete with reversed “Turbo” script and BMW Motorsport stripes. The car comes finished in Alpine White with a contrasting black hood and roof, accented by blue and red striping. Each hand-painted detail makes every car slightly unique.

The M2 Turbo Design Edition rides on black M Dual Spoke wheels, 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear, with gold-bronze rims available as an option. Inside, subtle details echo the exterior’s Turbo lettering and Motorsport theme.

Power comes from the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine that produces 473 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the manual gearbox, the coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.

BMW calls this edition a “reverential tribute” to the car that started its turbocharged journey. Back in 1973, the original 2002 Turbo made history as Europe’s first production turbo car, producing 168 horsepower—numbers that made it a legend on both the autobahn and the racetrack. Five decades later, the M2 Turbo Design Edition celebrates that same pioneering spirit, blending classic style with modern performance.

Launching as part of BMW’s 2026 lineup, the M2 Turbo Design Edition will start at $84,075, about $20,000 more than the base model. Limited in production and rich in heritage, it’s a collector’s piece that connects BMW’s performance past with its high-octane future.
