Maserati 3500GT gets full restoration by Touring Superleggera

Maserati and Touring Superleggera will use the 2025 Rétromobile auto show in Paris this month as the stage to unveil a fully restored Maserati 3500GT.

Produced between 1957 and 1964, the 3500GT is a significant model in Maserati’s history, as it was the brand’s first car to be built in relatively large volumes. And since it was designed with input from Touring Superleggera, it is fitting that the renowned Italian coachbuilder was chosen to handle the restoration.

The restored car is a 1959 example, which like all 3500GTs is powered by a 3.5-liter inline-6 engine. It is a highly original example that was originally delivered to California and was owned by the Dodge family for decades.

Restoring such a classic is no easy task due to the scarcity of parts, as Jay Leno experienced during the restoration of his own 3500GT a decade ago. However, Touring Superleggera had some help from Maserati Classiche, the automaker’s classic car’s department, which provided technical data and historical documentation.

Upon completion, Maserati Classiche conducted an extensive authenticity verification, assessing more than 300 details against historical records to ensure the car’s restoration adhered to its original specifications. The bodywork, interior, exterior, engine, transmission, colors, materials, electrical system, and accessories were all inspected and authenticated, Maserati said.

Following this verification, the car was awarded an official certificate of authenticity. Maserati offers this certification process for any of its vehicles older than 20 years, which can also be combined with maintenance and detailing services by its classic car specialists.

Rétromobile is an annual classic car show held in Paris. This year’s event runs from February 5-9 and will also feature the debut of the Renault Filante Record 2025 concept car.
