Rugged Volvo EX30 Cross Country debuts Feb. 10

  • The Volvo EX30 lineup will be expanded soon with a rugged Cross Country model
  • A concept previewing the design of the EX30 Cross Country was shown in 2023
  • Timing for the EX30 Cross Country’s arrival in the U.S. hasn’t been announced

The Volvo EX30 has finally begun deliveries in the U.S., with only a single EX30 Twin Motor Performance model currently available. However, more versions of the electric subcompact crossover are on the way, including a rugged model bearing the automaker’s Cross Country designation.

On Monday, Volvo announced that the EX30 Cross Country will debut on Feb. 10 at a special event in northern Sweden. A thinly veiled concept version was first shown in 2023, and the production model is expected to wear a very similar design.

Upgrades will include increased ground clearance, additional protective plastic cladding, unique 19-inch wheels finished in black, and skid plates on the front, rear, and sides of the underbody. A set of 18-inch wheels with unique tires will also be offered as an alternative, Volvo said at the concept’s reveal.

Powertrains for the EX30 Cross Country will likely be shared with the standard EX30, though in keeping with the more rugged ethos, the Cross Country may only be available with dual-motor all-wheel drive rather than also offering the EX30’s single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup.

Volvo has yet to announce U.S. availability for the EX30 Cross Country, but the model could become a popular choice among EX30 buyers in the U.S., as has been the case for other Volvo models offered in Cross Country guise.

The first batch of EX30s to arrive in the U.S., designated as 2025 models, have come from a plant in China, incurring steep tariffs in the process. All are EX30 Twin Motor Performance models, priced from $46,195, including a $1,295 destination charge.

Additional models will be introduced as Volvo begins EX30 production at its plant in Belgium later this year. An EX30 Single Motor, previously announced with a starting price of $36,245 including destination, is planned, along with the EX30 Cross Country.

All EX30 models at present come with a 69-kwh battery. In the EX30 Twin Motor Performance, the battery delivers an estimated 253 miles of range based on the EPA test cycle. It supports a charging capacity of 153 kw, enabling a 10-80% charge in as little as 25 minutes under optimal conditions when using a compatible charger, according to Volvo.
