2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata marks 35 years of sprightly roadster

  • The 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata has been revealed
  • The new model year brings a 35th Anniversary edition for $37,435
  • Pricing for the 2025 lineup starts at $30,515, including destination

The Mazda MX-5 Miata enters the 2025 model year with relatively few changes, as the convertible sports car received an update only a year ago. The highlight for 2025 is a new anniversary edition that celebrates 35 years since the launch of the original NA generation.

The MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary edition stands out thanks to a unique Artisan Red exterior paint finish coupled with an interior lined in tan leather. Other unique details were revealed ahead of the MX-5 Cup race coinciding with the 2025 24 Hours of Daytona next month, where the 35th Anniversary edition was formerly introduced. Mazda said U.S. customers will get an exclusive owner experience, but didn’t elaborate. A custom leather-wrapped key fob will go with each car.

Only 300 examples will be made for the U.S., which Mazda said makes the 35th Anniversary model the most exclusive MX-5 Miata stateside.

The rest of the lineup includes the Sport, Club, and Grand Touring models. The Sport is offered exclusively with a soft-top roof, while the Club and Grand Touring models can be fitted with either the soft-top or Mazda’s RF retractable hardtop for an extra $2,720.

The 2025 MX-5 Miata is already available for order, with deliveries starting in early 2025. Pricing starts at $30,515 for the Sport, $34,015 for the Club, and $35,815 for the Grand Touring. All figures include a $1,185 destination charge. The 35th Anniversary edition is the most expensive model costing $37,435.

All 2025 MX-5 Miata models are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 181 hp, with power sent to the rear wheels. The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, but buyers of the Grand Touring can opt for a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters for an additional $920.

All models also come with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8.8-inch touchscreen display for infotainment, as well as the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Upgrading to the Club adds 17-inch wheels instead of the standard 16-inch set, plus Bilstein dampers, a front shock tower brace, an asymmetric limited-slip differential, and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. The Grand Touring benefits from the same upgrades as the Club while adding more comfort and safety features. These include standard leather seats, heated side mirrors with automatic dimming on the driver’s side, adaptive headlights, and traffic sign recognition.

The current MX-5 Miata, the ND generation, has been on sale since the 2016 model year. Mazda hasn’t indicated how long the current car will stick around, though the automaker has hinted that future generations will feature some form of electrification. The Iconic SP concept, revealed at the 2023 Tokyo auto show, highlighted a potential direction in which Mazda would use an electric powertrain with a rotary engine serving purely as a range extender, a setup known as a series plug-in hybrid. The car is destined for production, though it may end up as a larger sports car akin to an RX-8 successor, rather than the next MX-5 Miata.
