  • SmartAccess now covers all four doors and the tailgate.
  • Select trims gain ventilated second-row outboard seats.
  • Prices rise $600 to $1,565 with no mechanical changes.

The 2027 Lexus GX arrives with a handful of welcome convenience upgrades, although none fundamentally changes the rugged luxury SUV. SmartAccess proximity entry has been expanded to all four doors and the tailgate, and it is now standard across the range. Lexus is also adding ventilated second-row outboard seats to the Luxury, Luxury+, and Overtrail+ grades. Unfortunately, the improvements come with higher prices for every trim.

The 2027 GX now starts at $69,085, including an unchanged $1,550 destination fee. That makes the entry-level Premium $750 more expensive, while the Premium+ climbs $600 to $73,400. Luxury and Luxury+ models each increase by $800, reaching $81,600 and $85,600, respectively. The Overtrail rises $750 to $76,730, while the Overtrail+ gets the biggest increase, jumping $1,565 to $85,010.

Beyond the additional convenience features and an available LED cargo lamp, the GX largely carries over. Its twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 makes 349 hp (260 kW) and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm) of torque, sent through a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard full-time four-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity remains at a very healthy 9,096 lbs (4,126 kg).

So, where are the price increases coming from? Lexus hasn’t provided a model-specific explanation, but tariffs appear to be part of the picture. The GX is built at Toyota’s Tahara plant in Japan, meaning American-market examples are subject to the 15 percent tariff currently applied to Japanese vehicle imports.

Toyota recently said it had initially projected a ¥1.38 trillion annual hit from US tariffs, although that estimate has since been reduced by ¥70 billion. The company is also facing approximately ¥1.2 trillion in higher material costs, particularly for aluminum and memory components, and plans to recover roughly half through gradual price increases. Currency fluctuations are a less convincing culprit, as Toyota said exchange rates had positively affected its latest results.

That doesn’t mean tariffs account for a precise portion of the GX’s increase. However, the imported SUV was already $2,750 more expensive across all six trims for 2026. Since its 2024 launch, the base GX has risen $4,835, while the Overtrail+ is now $7,760 more expensive. Oh, and one more thing. Lexus’ previously promised hybrid remains nowhere to be seen. When it does, you can be sure it won’t be less expensive.
