Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, its first all-electric vehicle, at a global debut in London today. It’s an SUV with up to 888 PS (876 hp), a 113 kWh battery, and up to 375 miles (600 km WLTP) of range.
The Torcal becomes Bentley’s fourth model line, alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. It’s designed, engineered, and built in Crewe, England.
The first electric Bentley, finally
Bentley has been talking about an EV for almost a decade. The company floated a smaller electric SUV below the Bentayga back in 2017, and in 2024, it confirmed its first EV would be a sleek urban SUV launching in 2026.
That’s roughly what we got. At five meters long, the Torcal is Bentley’s shortest four-door model, but it still offers a 460-liter trunk plus a 90-liter frunk.
Design Director Robin Page’s team gave it a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and a new illuminated diamond grille that borrows from the Continental T. It’s also the first Bentley to wear the brand’s redesigned emblem.
Two versions: Torcal and Torcal S
Bentley is launching the Torcal in two trims:
- Torcal: 821 PS (810 hp), 1,194 Nm (881 lb-ft), 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, 155 mph top speed
- Torcal S: 888 PS (876 hp), 1,350 Nm (996 lb-ft) with Launch Control, 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 162 mph top speed
That’s quick for a beefy SUV, but far from the “1,400 HP” and 1.5-second 0-60 mph that former CEO Adrian Hallmark promised for Bentley’s first EV back in 2022. Bentley says it deliberately capped acceleration because most of its customers find anything more extreme uncomfortable.
The S gets a sportier look with black brightware, dark taillights, a rear diffuser, red calipers, and 22-inch wheels as standard (21-inch on the base car).
Battery, range, and charging
Both versions use two permanent magnet synchronous motors, one per axle, with a locking rear differential. The battery pack is made of 192 lithium-ion pouch cells running at 800V, for 113 kWh of net capacity. Bentley covers it with a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Range is rated at up to 375 miles (600 km) on the WLTP cycle. We don’t have EPA figures yet, and those are usually lower.
For an SUV this heavy, it would be lucky to get 300 miles on a 113 kWh pack.
On the charging side, Bentley quotes a peak of 400 kW and a 10-80% session in 16 minutes, or about 100 miles of range added in seven minutes. Oddly, the body of Bentley’s press release says “just under 20 minutes” for the same 10-80% charge, so we’ll wait for more details there.
Those battery and charging specs line up closely with the Porsche Cayenne Electric, Bentley’s Volkswagen Group sibling, which also uses a 113 kWh, 800V pack and quotes the same 10-80% in 16 minutes at up to 400 kW.
Active suspension, fake engine sounds, and a lot of wool
The Torcal is also the first Bentley with fully active suspension. Each corner can raise or lower independently, which allows Bentley to get rid of anti-roll bars altogether. All-wheel steering is standard and cuts the turning circle to 11.1 meters.
And yes, it makes noise. Bentley recorded real musicians playing drums, viola, and bass guitar, inspired by the rhythm of its 6.75-liter V8, to create what it calls the “Bentley Dynamic Symphony.” The sound scales with torque demand and speed, and you can turn it off.
Inside, there are curved OLED screens, an augmented reality head-up display, facial recognition to load driver profiles, and four “Experience Modes” (Bentley, Comfort, Sport, and Refresh) that adjust lighting, sound, climate, and displays. Bentley kept physical controls on the center console and steering wheel.
The cabin also introduces what Bentley calls the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, developed with Somerset weaver Fox Brothers, along with a new Ombré Walnut veneer made from walnut off-cuts and recycled paper.
Other features include 25 radars, sensors, and cameras for driver assists and remote parking, four powered doors that open and close on their own, a switchable-glass sunroof, and an optional 1,780W, 28-speaker Naim audio system.
Bentley didn’t announce pricing or a delivery date for the Torcal in its launch release.
