  • AC Cars has teamed up with T-engineering for production of its Cobra GT
  • T-engineering was founded by ex-Saab engineers and is based on the former Saab plant in Sweden
  • AC is also building the Cobra GT in the U.K.

AC Cars has turned to an unlikely partner for support in building its modern take on the iconic Cobra sports car.

The British company announced on Wednesday that Sweden’s T-engineering will assist with the production of both the Cobra GT Roadster and the recently revealed Cobra GT Coupe.

Currently, the cars are built at facilities in the U.K. and rely on engineering services from Germany. However, strong demand has prompted AC to seek additional capacity from T-engineering.

T-Engineering is a Swedish company founded by former Saab engineers following Saab’s bankruptcy in the early 2010s, with financial backing from Chinese automaker Dongfeng. In addition to its production capabilities, T-engineering, based at the former Saab plant in Trollhättan, Sweden, also owns the former Saab test track. The company specializes in control systems and electrification, making it a valuable engineering partner for potential future developments at AC.

The Cobra GT is a modern sports car with aluminum and carbon-fiber construction, retaining the classic styling of the original Cobra built by both AC and Shelby American more than half a century ago. Buyers can choose between two powertrain options: a 2.0-liter turbo-4 producing 390 hp, or a 5.0-liter V-8, which delivers 454 hp in standard form or 654 hp with a supercharger.

Prices start at 235,000 British pounds (approximately $297,500), and the car is available in both left- and right-hand drive. Customers can also select between a manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Beyond the Cobra GT, AC is also offering continuation models of its original Ace, the sports car that laid the foundation for the Cobra. Known as the Ace Classic, this model can be ordered with either a 2.0-liter turbo-4 or an electric powertrain.
