BMW Italy has unveiled a one-off M3 dedicated to Alex Zanardi, marking what would have been the racing driver’s 60th birthday on October 23. The special car also celebrates 40 years of the BMW M3 and a relationship with Zanardi that spanned more than two decades.
Based on the current-generation M3, the tribute model was developed with design studio BorromeoDeSilva. Its exterior features a fresh interpretation of BMW M’s traditional racing colours, with graphics reflecting Zanardi’s journey with the brand. One particularly personal detail is the pineapple, his long-standing lucky charm, incorporated into the design.
The cabin gets equally thoughtful treatment. Anthracite Alcantara upholstery features laser-perforated sections that reveal an iridescent backing inspired by BMW M’s blue, violet and red colours. The interior design also draws inspiration from the legendary M3 E30 Sport Evolution.
Alcantara and Befuel contributed to bringing the project to life. More than a special paint job, the car celebrates Zanardi’s sporting achievements and enduring legacy.
