The Ford F-150 has the Raptor, and the Ram 1500 has the TRX, but when it comes to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 there’s still no high-performance option to be found. Some years back, Houston, Texas-based PaxPower stepped in to fill that void with its original Jackal. The conversion added the rugged suspension and flared wheel arches inspired by Baja pre-runners, and coupled this with the availability of a V-8 engine. The company now has a new version of the Jackal based on the updated Silverado introduced for 2022. The Jackal conversion can also be performed on the related GMC Sierra…
Lotus Technology, a division of Lotus responsible for EV development, is about to go public via a SPAC deal. Also referred to as a reverse merger, a SPAC deal is where a private company goes public by being taken over by a company that’s already listed, typically one set up solely for this purpose, known in investor circles as a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). The advantage is that it avoids the complexity (namely regulatory requirements) of launching an IPO. In an announcement on Tuesday, Lotus Technology said it plans a reverse merger with the Nasdaq-listed SPAC company L Catterton…
Meeting federal goals for a national charging network will require 1,104 EV fast-charging stations along major corridors, according to a new Great Plains Institute study. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law set aside $7.5 billion to build a national EV charging network of 500,000 charging sites, with $5 billion of that amount to be distributed to individual states. To qualify for that funding, the feds have set guidelines that call for four 150-kw connectors, every 50 miles. Existing and recommended U.S. EV fast-chargers (from 2023 Great Plains Institute study) Of the nation’s 4,943 existing public non-Tesla fast chargers, just 509 comply with…
Lamborghini in 2021 confirmed plans to launch an EV later this decade as a fourth model line, but don’t count on it being a supercar. In an interview with Motor1 published on Monday, Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini’s R&D chief, said EV technology hasn’t advanced to the point where it is truly ready for supercar applications. He also said it still might not be ready even five or six years down the line. “On the super sports car, we believe that at the moment it is not the right time [for EVs], and also probably the next five, six years,” he said.…
Welcome to Part 2 in my series ‘Super Cool-Looking Race Cars That Weren’t Actually Any Good At Being Race Cars’. Okay, so the title needs a little work, but following on from Part 1 – where I featured a Sard MC8 – the homologation model for the Sard MC8-R – Part 2 is equally as paradoxical. Suza-san has created a stunning tribute to the Nismo GT-R LM – another race car that looks like it has annual reservations at the Podium Hotel, when in actual fact it didn’t quite make it onto the A-list. Much like the Sard MC8-R, the Nismo GT-R LM race car was Nissan’s attempt at world domination.…
Audi has listened to customer feedback and made the A4 softer and more comfortable, and as a result it’s easier to live with. There’s still plenty of performance on offer to keep you entertained, but if you’re after driving thrills you’re still better off with the BMW 3 Series or Jaguar XE.Few of the A4’s rivals can compete with its beautifully crafted interior, and it’s a place than can transform the most arduous journey into an enjoyable one. If you’re happy cruising and prioritise a particularly classy-looking cabin, the A4 could be for you.About the Audi A4The A4 range was facelifted in 2019…
Ford’s now-defunct Mercury Division first began using the Marquis name in 1967, on a sporty full-size hardtop based on the Ford LTD, then began offering the Grand Marquis beginning in the 1979 model year. These big, boxy luxury sedans were replaced by big, curvy luxury sedans (on the same platform) starting with the 1992 model year, so today’s Junkyard Gem is one of the very last squared-off Grand Marquises ever built. The 1991 Grand Marquis (or “Grandma Keith,” as many refer to it today) looks nearly identical to its 1979 predecessor at a glance, just as the 2011 model doesn’t differ…
GM has built a strong argument around the idea that one specific battery cell format, co-developed with LG, is a key for the company realizing certain economies of scale as it ramps up EV production. But recent reports have suggested that GM is shopping around, and may be considering a shift to cylindrical cells for some upcoming vehicles. And while remarks this week from the company’s top executive didn’t confirm that, they suggested that the company may no longer be as focused on that singular solution as it was two years ago, when it revealed its Ultium propulsion strategy for…
Recent extreme winter weather in much of the western U.S.—not to mention a brutal snowstorm in Buffalo, New York, that left dozens dead, some of whom were in their cars—has sparked fresh concerns about what happens to electric vehicle drivers who get stranded in snowstorms. We’re here to tell you the heartwarming—literally—truth about your safety when stranded in an EV on the interstate or…
