Mazda on Friday revealed its rotary range-extended version of the MX-30 electric vehicle, called the Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV. The MX-30 R-EV would offer a range far greater than the 100 EPA miles of the MX-30 EV, which is currently only offered in California. But as Mazda USA suggested earlier in the week, the R-EV that was previously confirmed for the U.S. may now be delayed or canceled entirely. The R-EV is almost indistinguishable from the MX-30 EV except for some trim differences. That means you get the same rather eccentric package—a compact crossover with a somewhat more rakish roofline…
We spotted the 2024 Ford F-150, Tesla dropped its prices, and we drove the 2023 Genesis G90. It’s the Week in Reverse, right here at Motor Authority. The 2024 Ford F-150 got caught by our spy photographer’s camera while testing on public roads. The refreshed F-150 will sport updated front and rear lighting elements, tweaked grilles, and revised technology inside its cab. The 2024 model year marks the end of the road for the Jaguar F-Type. To celebrate the occasion, the F-Type 75 special edition will be available as a coupe or convertible. Amid increased competition, Tesla dropped prices across…
From the January 1979 issue of Car and Driver. It was [executive editor Mike] Knepper’s idea. “Why don’t you try to get a Trans Am to drive while you’re in Europe?” he asked. Immediately, that sounded like a terrific idea. Pick it up at Frankfurt-Main airport, drive it to Austria, then Stuttgart, then Paris, then give it back. “Terrific!” said GM Overseas Public Relations, so we called the travel agent and made our low-buck Apex reservations, Detroit–Frankfurt. When it was too late to change, GMO called back and said, “Hey, terrific, you can pick the car up in Antwerp!” So a…
There was a time when Cadillac didn’t understand its competitive set, especially back when it repeatedly and publicly set its sights on the big German luxury trio and major metropolitan areas. At one point, the American luxury brand didn’t make adaptive headlights an option on the CTS because the manufacturer cost was an additional $40. Even assuming a customer price of $200, the omission made it impossible for owners in those major metros to keep up with BMW Joneses, and all for less than the price of dinner at the kind of restaurant Cadillac wanted such owners to be seen…
The Williams Formula 1 team on Friday named James Vowles as its new team principal. He replaces Jost Capito, who left the squad at the end of 2022 after just two seasons, and will be only the third team principal at Williams after Capito and team founder Frank Williams. Vowles is an F1 veteran with 21 years of experience in the sport, with most of that time spent with the hugely successful Mercedes-Benz AMG F1 team, where he served as an engineer and more recently as its head of strategy. He also worked at the previous incarnations of the Mercedes…

A unique 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ZL-1 Convertible is set to cross the block at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Phoenix, Arizona, on Jan. 16. The Monaco Orange drop-top is the only one of its kind. And it’s one of just two factory-documented ZL-1 Corvettes built for 1969, and the only convertible to get the ZL-1 treatment, an option that added a race-derived 427-cubic-inch V-8 engine to the C3 ‘Vette. 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray ZL-1 Convertible (photo via RM Sotheby’s) Based on the L88 engine, the ZL-1’s 427 features aluminum block and heads, the latter with an “open chamber” design…
More than one third of U.S. Lincoln dealerships have opted out of a certification plan to sell electric cars as part of the luxury brand’s EV shift, Automotive DriftBreath reported Friday. Following the example of parent Ford, Lincoln in October 2022 told its dealers to invest in upgrades to sell EVs or bail out of the brand. Lincoln now says 356 of its roughly 600 dealers, representing about 88% of its sales volume, have committed to this electric future, according to Automotive DriftBreath. Of those dealerships ready to take the EV plunge, about 90% are in the nation’s top 130…
Car and Driver The field of crossovers and SUVs available with a manual transmission continues to shrink. Stick-shifts are disappearing from the market left and right, with models such as the Jeep Compass, Mini Countryman, and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport going all-automatic recently. That leaves behind only a handful of options for those seeking a tall vehicle that isn’t a pickup truck that also has a row-your-own transmission. We’ve gathered the three new crossover and SUV models—and the specific trim levels on each that come with the human-shifted transmission—that still offer a stick. If you’ve even casually looked into the world of Japanese domestic market (JDM) vehicles, you’re probably familiar with the Toyota Century. Known as Japan’s Rolls-Royce, the ultra-luxury car has endured for decades as a chariot for the country’s ultra-elite and royalty. In its time on the market, Toyota has barely wavered from the Century’s original design, but a new report from Japan’s Best Car Web states that the automaker is planning a Century SUV with a reveal date this year. The current Century sedan shares some parts with earlier Lexus LS models, but it’s unclear how Toyota would configure a…
