Mercedes-Benz is in the process of implementing mid-cycle updates to its compact range, and the latest to receive an update is the CLA-Class. The updated CLA-Class is due at dealerships later in 2023 as a 2024 model, in regular CLA-Class guise and spicy CLA 35 and CLA 45 S AMG guises. A study conducted at a London university suggests that the old trope of men with less-than-average endowment turning to sports cars and other forms of “conspicuous consumption” may indeed be rooted in truth. Elaphe and McLaren are partnering to marry the former’s in-wheel motor tech with the latter’s racing expertise. At the recent 2023 CES in Las Vegas, the two companies announced an “in-wheel propulsion system” using Elaphe’s in-wheel motors and inverters from McLaren Applied Technologies to create “highly efficient and hyper-responsive electric vehicles,” according to an Elaphe press release. Porsche engineers are out testing prototypes for an updated 911 range, and a new one has been spotted. Previously we brought you spy shots of prototypes for the updated 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, and 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Our latest shots show what’s likely to be the updated 911 Carrera coupe. A revival of the historic British marque Vanwall is underway, based in Germany and led by Colin Kolles, a former Formula 1 manager who currently runs the racing team ByKolles. ByKolles is looking to enter the World Endurance Championship as Vanwall, in the premier Hypercar class with a new LMH race car. The class is only open to manufacturers, which means ByKolles needs to offer a production car to be eligible. Alfa Romeo’s limited U.S. lineup gains a new entry for 2024 in the form of the stylish Tonale compact crossover. Revealed in early 2022, the 2024 Tonale is now available for pre-order and has been priced from $44,590, including a $1,595 destination charge. That starting price is for the base Sprint version that will be available for pre-order later in 2023. Versions currently available for pre-order include the Ti ($46,590) and Veloce ($49,090).
