Nissan announced Monday that as part of an accelerated shift to electrified and fully electric vehicles it sees 55% of global mix made up by “electrified” vehicles by 2030—up from its previous 50% forecast. Alfa Romeo plans to launch at least one new model every year through 2027, at which point it will be a fully electric brand. One of those models will be a redesigned Giulia, which Autocar has learned will offer up to 1,000 hp. Lotus has been spotted testing a prototype for its upcoming electric sedan, a model that may go by the name Envya based on recent trademark activity by the automaker. The sedan is code-named the Type 133 and was confirmed in 2021 alongside three other EVs. They include the Eletre mid-size SUV that debuted last year, a compact crossover (code-named Type 134), and a sports car (code-named Type 135). The sedan is due for a reveal later this year. In cold weather, energy needed to heat vehicle interiors can negatively impact EV range. Ford claims its engineers have found a solution—for delivery vehicles, at least. As part of a research project with the European Commission, Ford engineers fitted an E-Transit deliver van with heated armrests, floor mats, door panels, and sun visors, as well as a heated panel below the steering wheel, the automaker explained in a press release. The Mercedes-Benz EQB, the electric version of the GLB-Class compact crossover, is about to come in for an update, as evidenced by the recent sighting of a camouflaged prototype vehicle. Mercedes is in the process of updating its entire compact range. The A-Class and B-Class were updated last year, though neither model is offered in the U.S. The A-Class was dropped here after 2022. Nissan Ariya electric SUVs are making part of their journey to dealerships on electric semi trucks. The automaker said in a press release said it will use up to four battery-electric Class 8 semis to haul vehicles from the Port of Los Angeles to dealerships. Tractors are being provided by Nikola and Kenworth. They haul traditional car carriers and are charged using newly installed hardware at the port, the release said.
