BMW is inviting a new generation of amateur racers to the track with the launch of the M2 Racing, a stripped-down, track-only sports car aimed at driving enthusiasts who want to get serious about motorsport—without breaking the bank.
Revealed as an “entry-level” offering by BMW M Motorsport, the M2 Racing delivers 313 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic. While that may seem tame compared to the 473-hp production BMW M2 for sale, the M2 Racing weighs just 3,300 pounds, giving it a spirited power-to-weight ratio that promises plenty of fun in the corners.
Built in Mexico and priced from €98,000 (roughly $111,500), this turnkey race car comes fully prepped for competition. It includes a roll cage, fire suppression system, racing dash, upgraded aero components, and a dedicated brake-cooling system from BMW M. A pit-lane speed limiter and mandatory race features are all standard. There’s only one color option—white—perfect for teams looking to apply custom liveries or sponsor decals.
The M2 Racing follows in the footsteps of the BMW M235i Racing and M2 CS Racing, offering a relatively affordable way to dive into motorsports. BMW M boss Franciscus van Meel emphasizes the car’s appeal to grassroots racers: “It’s affordable while offering racing teams and drivers uncompromising performance, durability, and pure driving pleasure.”
Available for order in June and expected to hit tracks in the 2026 season, the M2 Racing represents an ideal gateway for those ready to turn weekend passion into real competition. For many aspiring racers, this might just be the perfect first step toward a lifelong obsession.
