Ford Mustang Mach-E aims to dominate at 2025 Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Ford will return to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this year with another one-off demonstrator, this time based on the Mustang Mach-E.

The automaker confirmed plans to take on Pikes Peak for a third time in a row Thursday in a brief statement, adding that Romain Dumas will drive the Mach-E demonstrator. The Frenchman also drove Ford’s previous two entries, wheeling the electric SuperVan 4.2 in 2023 and the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck in 2024.

Dumas will look to repeat his success at Pikes Peak last year, where he set the fastest time of the event, completing the 12.5-mile course to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak in 8:53.533 behind the wheel of the SuperTruck. He also holds the overall record at the hill climb at 7:57.148, which he set in 2018 with the Volkswagen ID.R electric racer.

Mach-E EV Demonstrator Pikes Peak teaser

Ford didn’t provide any details on the Mach-E Pikes Peak demonstrator, but judging by Ford’s previous two entrants, it should be pretty wild. In race trim, the SuperTruck’s tri-motor powertrain delivered 1,600 hp, while an elaborate aerodynamics package generated a claimed 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.

Ford’s 2023 Pikes Peak entrant, the electric SuperVan 4.2, boasted four electric motors delivering a combined 1,972 hp, along with a purpose-built steel space-frame chassis and composite bodywork. The latest in a series of radical SuperVan concepts, it didn’t win Pikes Peak but managed an impressive 8:47.682 with Dumas at the wheel.

The Pikes Peak Mach-E won’t be the first performance demonstrator based on Ford’s electric SUV. In 2020, the automaker and semi-official tuner RTR Vehicles unleashed the Mach-E 1400, packing seven motors delivering a combined 1,400 hp.
