Geely TT launches at $19,100 — half the price of a Tesla

Geely TT

Geely launched its new TT electric sport sedan in China, starting at 129,900 yuan (about $19,100), with 800V fast charging and LiDAR on every trim.

That price puts a 640 km sedan with next-generation charging hardware at roughly half the price of a Tesla.

Sold as the Galaxy TT in China and simply “the TT” in Geely’s international materials, the car arrives in five versions: four rear-wheel-drive trims and one all-wheel-drive Ultra. The RWD range runs from 129,900 yuan to 159,900 yuan ($19,100 to $23,500), and the limited-edition Ultra tops out at 185,900 yuan (around $27,300).

Geely says the TT pulled in more than 20,000 pre-orders in about two weeks before launch, so there was demand waiting for it.

The specs don’t match the price

On paper, nothing about the TT reads like a $19,100 car.

Every trim uses an 800V architecture paired with a CATL “Shenxing TT” lithium iron phosphate battery rated for up to 6C charging. Geely claims the system adds close to 500 km of range in 11 minutes. The entry car carries a 63.8 kWh pack good for 640 km on China’s CLTC cycle (518 km WLTP), and a 75.2 kWh version stretches the flagship RWD trim to 725 km CLTC.

The single-motor cars make 245 kW (329 hp). The dual-motor Ultra makes a combined 425 kW (570 hp) and runs 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a chassis tuned by Lotus and a “Handling by Lotus” badge on each car. Geely also had the TT set a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous wet-road drift, at more than 46 km.

LiDAR is standard across the lineup, feeding Geely’s G-ASD driver-assistance system for highway and city navigation. Inside, there’s a “Super Eva” AI assistant, a 23-speaker Flyme Sound system, and a flat rear floor in a cabin stretched over a 2,920 mm wheelbase on a car that’s just shy of five meters long.

Priced to go straight at Xiaomi

The comparison Geely wants you to make is with the Xiaomi SU7.

Xiaomi’s new-generation SU7 starts at 229,900 yuan (about $31,870) in China. The TT starts at 129,900 yuan. That’s a 100,000 yuan gap on the entry car, and even the loaded Ultra undercuts a base SU7. Geely is selling a similar-size, similar-mission electric sedan for a little more than half the money.

It’s built on Geely’s GEA EVO platform, with double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension and adaptive damping. This is the same company that’s been showing off a 500 Wh/kg solid-state battery it plans to pilot in 2027, and whose brands just aced Euro NCAP crash testing alongside GAC and Leapmotor. The cheap price isn’t coming from a cheap car.

For now, the TT is a China-only product. But Geely has already said it plans to enter the US EV market within two to three years, and it’s in advanced talks to take over a Ford plant in Europe.

If you’re shopping for an EV, the cheapest miles you’ll ever drive come from charging it on your own rooftop solar. With electricity rates up almost 10% last year and expected to keep climbing, going solar is one of the best ways to protect yourself against rising costs. And with lease and PPA options, you can do it with zero upfront cost and start saving immediately. If you want to find the best deal, check out EnergySage. It’s a free service with hundreds of pre-vetted installers competing for your business, so you save 20 to 30% compared to going it alone. No sales calls until you pick an installer.
