It’s easy to forget the Genesis G70 is still on sale as the model was introduced nine years ago and hasn’t made much of an impact. That’s a shame and there’s been conflicting reports about the car’s future.

Fast forward to today and things are starting to look bleak as a new report suggests Genesis will trim the lineup for 2027. According to EPA and NHTSA information found by Car & Driver, the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 could be toast.

The engine was found in the G70 3.3T Sport Prestige and Prestige Graphite, which began at $53,600 and climbed to $58,900 for the range-topping variant. Both models had 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 376 lb-ft (509 Nm) of torque, although versions with the variable exhaust got an extra 3 hp (2 kW / 3 PS).

Genesis wouldn’t confirm the V6 is dead, but its absence in fuel economy ratings and VIN documentation is pretty notable. However, the move wouldn’t be surprising as automakers tend to simplify lineups ahead of axing a model. We’ve seen that play out with the Nissan Altima as the 2025 model dropped the 2.0-liter turbo, while the 2026 model shed the S and SL trims.
Getting back to the G70, the sole engine for 2027 could be a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. It’s no slouch, but the mill is notably less powerful as it has 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque. That’s considerably more than the BMW 330i and Mercedes C300, but Genesis no longer has a challenger to the M340i or the even more powerful C43.
Genesis will reportedly reveal details about the 2027 G70 soon, but the publication suggested it could be the car’s “final year on sale.”
