The new Hyundai IONIQ 9 Black Ink edition sits above the Calligraphy as the new range-topping trim.

Meet the Hyundai IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink

Hyundai’s three-row electric SUV is already impressive inside and out, but the new Black Ink trim takes it to the next level.

We were among the first to see it when Hyundai first unveiled it in April at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia. Now, Hyundai is introducing the range-topping variant overseas.

The new model is positioned above the current IONIQ 9 Calligraphy as the new flagship trim. As you could guess, the Calligraphy Black Ink brings exclusive blacked-out design elements inside and out to the IONIQ 9’s most powerful dual-motor setup.

Hyundai told Electrek that the Black Ink design takes influence from Calligraphy. Like traditional Calligraphy, which is highly meticulous and often takes years to master, Hyundai took the same approach with the new variant.

On the exterior, the first thing you’ll notice is the blacked-out Hyundai emblem up front. It also features dedicated 21″ alloy wheels and a gloss black rear garnish.

Interestingly, the new trim is available in Abyss Black Pearl and Serenity White Pearl in the UK and Europe. In the US, it will only be offered in Abyss Black Pearl.

The blacked-out style extends to the interior with Black Nappa leather seats, a black leather-wrapped steering wheel, and black aluminum dashboard trim.

Powered by the same dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup and 110-kWh battery as the Calligraphy, the Black Ink trim delivers a combined 422 horsepower and a WLTP range of up to 372 miles (600 km).

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 Calligraphy Black Ink is available in six- and seven-seat configurations. In the UK, the new trim starts at £79,320 ($107,000). On Hyundai’s German website, it’s listed from €89,950 ($104,000).

Hyundai has yet to reveal US prices, but given the current range-topping Calligraphy Design starts at $76,490, the 2027 IONIQ 9 Performance Calligraphy Black Ink will be more expensive at around $85,000.

With the 2027 models on the way, the best deals are on current models. You can use the links below to find local offers on Hyundai’s electric vehicles, see what’s available, or set up a test drive near you.
