Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands have launched a Canadian website confirming that their “premium electric SUVs” will arrive in Canada in late 2026.
The site doesn’t name a single model, price, or dealer yet. But the Chinese automaker’s global lineup gives a pretty clear idea of what Canadians could get, and it’s heavy on plug-in hybrids.
A launch page with no cars on it
The new Omoda & Jaecoo Canada website is a teaser at this point. It tells visitors that “the wait is almost over” and that the brands are “coming late 2026,” with a sign-up form for updates.
The retailer locator is empty too. The company says it’s “building a network across Canada” and will announce locations ahead of the launch.
The site does include one telling bit of fine print: vehicles shown are intended for other markets, and some may not be available in Canada. In other words, Chery hasn’t picked its Canadian lineup yet, or at least isn’t saying.
On its “About” page, Omoda & Jaecoo claims it’s now sold in more than 75 countries and has exported over 1.2 million vehicles in about three years. The brand is growing fast in Europe. In the UK alone, it registered 6,238 vehicles in August for a 6.62% market share, according to the company.
Why now: Canada’s Chinese EV quota
This is a direct result of Canada slashing its 100% tariff on Chinese EVs to 6.1% back in January. The deal lets in up to 49,000 Chinese-made electrified vehicles per year at the lower rate, rising to 70,000 by 2030. Anything outside the quota still gets hit with the 100% surtax.
And for Chery, the quota covers plug-in hybrids and hybrids, not just battery-electric vehicles. That matters a lot given what Omoda and Jaecoo actually sell.
Chery has been preparing for a while. As we reported in May, it filed Canadian trademarks for Omoda, Jaecoo, and several other sub-brands, and Jaecoo E5 prototypes were spotted in Ontario on manufacturer plates.
It won’t be alone. BYD plans to open 20 Canadian dealerships in its first year, also targeting a late 2026 start. And Tesla is already using the quota to sell a Shanghai-built Model 3 at a record-low C$39,490.
Omoda & Jaecoo’s current electrified lineup
We don’t know which of these will make it to Canada. Here’s what the brands currently offer in markets like the UK, Australia, and Indonesia, based on their official spec sheets.
Jaecoo E5 (J5 EV)
The Jaecoo E5 is the most likely candidate to lead a Canadian launch, since it’s the one Chery was caught testing in Ontario. It’s a compact electric SUV with a 60.9 kWh battery, a 155 kW front motor, and 248 miles (399 km) of WLTP range. It does 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.
It’s also cheap. The E5 starts at £27,505 in the UK and A$36,990 driveaway in Australia.
The catch is charging. Jaecoo UK lists an 80 kW DC peak, with 30-80% taking 27 minutes. That’s slow by 2026 standards.
Omoda E5
The Omoda E5 is the sportier sibling on the same basic hardware: a 61 kWh battery, 155 kW motor, and 267 miles (430 km) of WLTP range. It charges from 30-80% in 28 minutes and starts at £33,065 in the UK.
Omoda 4 (O4 EV)
The newest EV in the family launched in Indonesia in July. The Omoda 4 gets a bigger 65.05 kWh LFP pack, a 160 kW motor, 553 km of range on the optimistic NEDC cycle, and a 119 kW DC peak with 20-80% in 22 minutes. Pricing hasn’t been published yet.
Jaecoo 7 SHS-P
This is the brand’s volume seller and it’s a plug-in hybrid. The Jaecoo 7 SHS-P pairs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with an 18.3 kWh battery for 56 miles (90 km) of WLTP electric range. Power is 150 kW (204 PS), and it starts at £35,170 in the UK. Australia now also gets an AWD version with a second, rear motor.
Jaecoo 8 SHS-P
The Jaecoo 8 is a three-row, six- or seven-seat PHEV with three motors and AWD. It has a 34.46 kWh battery for 83 miles (134 km) of WLTP electric range, 315 kW (428 PS), and a 0-100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds. It starts at £45,500 in the UK.
Omoda 9 SHS-P
The Omoda 9 is the brand’s flagship. It uses the same 34.46 kWh battery as the Jaecoo 8, rated at 90 miles (145 km) of WLTP electric range, with 449 PS and 700 Nm from an AWD setup. It does 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and starts at £44,995 in the UK.
Omoda 7 SHS-P
The Omoda 7 is a newer mid-size PHEV with 150 kW (204 PS), 56 miles (90 km) of electric range, and a UK starting price of £32,005.

Chery also sells non-plug-in hybrid versions of several of these models, but those aren’t what the brand is pitching to Canadians as “electric SUVs.”
