Range-Rover-GT-EV-spotted

Range Rover is adding a fifth member to its lineup, but this one is a bit of an outlier. The new GT brings a distinct fastback design to the family. Here’s our first look at it on the road.

Range Rover tests new electric GT ahead of its debut

The British luxury brand created quite the stir when it revealed the Range Rover GT last month, the fifth and newest member of the lineup.

Unlike its current lineup of luxury SUVs, the Range Rover GT is a low-slung grand tourer. Range Rover said the new vehicle is “a captivating new expression” of the brand, describing it as “the most technologically sophisticated” model it’s ever created.

The design follows years of obsessing over the fundamentals of the GT formula, according to Martin Limbert, the Range Rover’s managing director.

“The result is the most car‑like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created,” Limbert added.

The Range Rover GT will be the brand’s first vehicle based on JLR’s new EMA platform. It will initially be available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), but Range Rover will add a full-hybrid (HEV) option later in the lifecycle.

Range Rover previewed prototypes during final on-road tests, but new spy images from @Wilcoblok offer a closer look at the new GT in the real world.

The prototype was captured testing near the Nürburgring. While it’s still heavily disguised, you can catch a glimpse of the sporty new look.

Inside, the Range Rover GT follows the same design principles that define the exterior: “purity, precision, and quiet modernity,” Limbert said.

A large digital screen sits at the center, with a small driver display replacing the traditional instrument cluster.

Every element is intentionally designed to create a sense of calm. For example, a concealed air vent runs across the width of the cabin, while a woven textile wraps the dashboard to hide the speakers.

Range Rover said more details will come later this year. In the meantime, it’s preparing to launch its first electric SUV.

The flagship Range Rover Electric SUV is based on JLR’s MLA platform. It will use a 118 kWh battery pack, providing up to 373 miles (600 km) of range.

The GT is expected to use a 100 kWh battery, which could unlock close to 500 miles (800 km) of range with its fastback design.

Production of the Range Rover GT is set to begin in the first half of 2027 at JLR’s Halewood, UK plant, following the flagship electric SUV and smaller Sport model. Positioned below the Velar, the Range Rover GT will likely be over £75,000 ($100,000) in the UK.

In the US, the electric Range Rover GT is expected to start at about $90,000 with an EPA-estimated range of at least 300 miles.
