Stellantis trademarks Sunchaser and Convoy names

Stellantis has made moves to trademark the Sunchaser and Convoy names, perhaps hinting at some new vehicles or special editions in the works.

The automaker filed applications for trademark protection for the two names with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, both on Feb. 28.

The Sunchaser application specifically states its use for concept vehicles. The name hints at something designed for sun lovers—possibly a convertible or a surf-friendly vehicle.

The name also recalls Toyota’s Celica Sunchaser, a special edition from the late 1970s and early ‘80s that featured a removable roof.

The Convoy application lists the name for use on passenger vehicles, perhaps for a future van. It might indicate a special version of Chrysler’s Voyager or its Pacifica twin, or possibly a variant of Ram’s ProMaster van.

Of course, which such trademark filings spark speculation, automakers often secure names without immediate plans for production, simply protecting them for potential future use.
