  • Government website indicates that the V6-powered Genesis G70 is dead for 2027.
  • Fueleconomy.gov only lists the rating for the four-cylinder powertrain.
  • The twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 serves as the optional performance engine for the entry-level model, producing 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

The Genesis G70, equipped with the twin-turbocharged V6, resulted in a shockingly good sports sedan, but that fun ride might be over. The V6-powered Genesis G70 appears to be dead for the 2027 model year, as the government’s fuel economy website lists the rating only for the four-cylinder powertrains.

The twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 serves as the optional performance engine for Genesis’ entry-level model.  Paired with an eight-speed automatic and available in rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, the engine produces 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

Motor1 reached out to Genesis to confirm the engine’s demise. We will update this story if the automaker responds.

With the V6’s demise, G70 buyers will be left with the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for the upcoming model year. It makes 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque and pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The G70’s Future

Last year, rumors suggested Genesis would produce the G70 through 2027 and had no plans for a successor. The Korean automaker pushed back on the report, but its plans for the sport sedan remain a mystery.

The most recent rumors from earlier this year suggest the automaker will give the G70 a second facelift. The sedan, which shared its platform with the now-defunct Kia Stinger, debuted in North America for the 2019 model year.

Despite its age, the G70 remains quite stylish, receiving a mid-cycle refresh for 2022 in the United States. Another makeover could easily extend the sedan’s life through the end of the decade and beyond.

Motor1’s Take: The death of the V6-powered G70 is disheartening, but if the sedan lives on, maybe this is making room for a new engine option that is just as fun. We expect the automaker to release information for its 2027 models soon.
