Tiny Titan: new residential battery system from EcoFlow starts small

The three-model range combines battery backup, solar charging and a new home panel, Three models offer 5–30 kWh of storage, and with immediate availability. It’s a smaller starting option versus EcoFlow’s Delta Pro Ultra systems.

EcoFlow is hoping to make a titanic splash with its new, smaller (but scalable!) residential energy storage lineup that the company is calling a more approachable entry point to its backup battery offerings.

EcoFlow’s new, three-model Titan 5000 range of home backup batteries starts off relatively small with “just” a single, 5 kWh energy storage module that’s enough to keep your refrigerator, lights and Wi-Fi going while keeping your phone and laptop batteries charged. That’s just the start, however, as the system is designed to easily scale up with the addition of more 5,000 Wh modules (hence, the name) to meet your more substantial energy needs — all the way up to 30 kWh.

The company says that’s enough juice to keep an average US home humming along for a full two days without grid power; and that power will (obviis) last a lot longer if you can keep the HVAC system off and keep energy use to a minimum.

Keep it simple

All three Titan models start with a 5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery and can be expanded to the previously mentioned 30 kWh maximum capacity by stacking more modular batteries, but they differ in output power and capacity for solar panel system integration.

The entry-spec Titan 5000 Classic delivers up to 4 kW of 120V output, while the Titan 5000 steps that up to 7.2 kW continuous power with both 120V and 240V split-phase output available.

The flagship Titan 5000 Plus, meanwhile, also promises 7.2 kW of continuous power, but can reach up to 10 kW of peak power when paired with solar, thanks to EcoFlow’s X-Fusion 2.0 PV Boost technology. The Titan 5000 and Plus can also pair with the EcoFlow Smart Home Panel 10, which the company claims can help homeowners add backup power without replacing their main electrical panel or enduring a lengthy, complex installation.

“Whole-home backup has traditionally required households to choose between the power they want and the cost and complexity they’re willing to take on,” explains Brian Essenmacher, Head of US Business Development at EcoFlow. “With TITAN, we’re giving more families a practical way to get the power they need, while also helping them manage energy more intelligently every day.”

EcoFlow is allowing “early bird” the chance to lock in one of three bundle deals now with a $50 pre-payment, saving up to $2,999 in November when it officially releases (and when they’ll be expected pay the remaining balance). It’s worth noting, too, that the FCC authorizations for all three of EcoFlow’s new Titan 5000 systems are dated July 20, before the FCC’s July 28 restrictions on foreign-produced inverters kicked in.
