Smart Parking works in a similar way, triggering recording automatically when the vehicle is knocked, and notifying the driver as soon as they connect to the car.

Witness Mode Lite is a voice-activated feature which saves footage, and messages an emergency contact if the camera senses an accident or the driver asks for help.

The 385GW and 385GWX will be available from February, and will also be sold through Halfords and other retailers

Nextbase Piqo dash cam

Nextbase has reinvented its best-selling, entry-level dash cams to appeal to a younger audience. The new cameras, called Piqo, are smaller and more connected than previous models, with prices for the range starting from just under £100.

The £99.99 Piqo 1K can capture footage in 1080p quality, while the Piqo Pro improves the resolution to 1440p and costs £129.99.

Both have GPS receivers built in, which allows them to monitor speed and location data. The cameras can also automatically  alert emergency services in the event of an accident, using a connection through your smartphone – although this feature requires  a subscription, which currently costs £2.99  per month, or £29.99 annually.

A clever feature called Guardian Mode Lite is able to keep an eye on your vehicle when it’s being driven by someone else – such as a family member or mechanic – and automatically saves video clips if your car is driven over your set speed limit or involved in an incident. Unlike Nextbase’s more expensive iQ camera, which has a live data connection, the Piqo will let you download the footage when you are next in the car.
