  • A redesigned 2026 Honda Passport has gone on sale
  • The new SUV comes standard with a 285-hp V-6
  • Prices start at $46,200, including destination

A new generation of the Honda Passport two-row midsize SUV went on sale on Tuesday, initially as a 2026 model in the U.S. market.

Buyers are able to choose from a base RTL model and extra-rugged TrailSport and TrailSport Elite models, with the RTL priced from $46,200, and the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite priced from $49,900 and $53,900, respectively. All figures include a $1,450 destination charge. The base price is up slightly on the 2025 Passport’s $43,795 sticker, but the new 2026 model has a lot to offer as standard.

Revealed last fall during the 2024 Los Angeles auto show, the 2026 Passport, the fourth generation for the nameplate, has grown in size and looks much brawnier than the outgoing model thanks to a rugged new design that includes big 18-inch wheels with 31-inch tires as standard. TrailSport versions come with all-terrain tires.

The SUV’s design is functional in areas as elements like a shorter front overhang and hidden exhaust tips, plus some increased ground clearance, help to improve approach and departure angles. The bigger size, with the wheelbase growing 2.8 inches to 113.8 inches and the track widening by 1.3 inches at the front and 1.5 inches at the rear, also improves interior space. Cargo space is a maximum 83.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat, up 5.8 cubic feet compared to the outgoing model.

The interior design is similar to what you find in most Hondas, with a 10.2-inch screen serving as a digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen serving as the infotainment hub. The infotainment system has Google built-in and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger is also included as standard. The cabin features 10 cupholders in total, including six that will fit 32-ounce water bottles.

The TrailSport models get easy to clean trim (perforated leather on TrailSport Elite), plus a sliding panoramic sunroof. They also get orange contrast stitching and head restraints embroidered with the TrailSport logo. All-season floor mats, power folding mirrors, and a heated windshield are standard on the TrailSports.

All 2026 Passports will feature the same 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 285 hp, or 5 hp more than the V-6 in the outgoing model. New to the drivetrain is a 10-speed automatic, up one gear on the outgoing model, and Honda’s latest all-wheel-drive system which features a rear drive unit that can handle more drive torque (up 40%) and responds faster (up 30%) to changes in direction of the drive torque. Honda said this results in improved traction, especially when off-roading.

The platform is Honda’s Global Light Truck Platform, which debuted in the 2022 Acura MDX and also underpins Honda’s Pilot three-row midsize SUV. For the Passport, the chassis has been reinforced, including the use of stronger suspension arms and knuckles. Honda quotes increases of 72% and 50% respectively for front lateral rigidity and rear torsion rigidity.

The suspension, consisting of MacPherson struts at the front and a new multi-link design at the rear, was also tuned to improve off-road performance. Steering feel and stability were also improved with a stiffer steering column and stiffer torsion bar, and the brakes were upgraded with bigger calipers and front rotors measuring 13.8 inches, up 1.2 inches compared to the outgoing model. Towing capacity is unchanged at 5,000 pounds, but a new Tow mode is included for the drive mode selector. A new Trail model for off-roading is also included for the first time.

For serious off-roaders, Honda offers the TrailSport and better-equipped TrailSport Elite. These feature suspension tuning even more suited for off-road conditions, steel skid plates, plus recovery points front and rear, and General Grabber all-terrain tires developed specifically for the vehicle. The tires measure 275/60R18 at all four corners. For the TrailSport Elite, there’s a TrailWatch camera system with tire path graphics to help drivers navigate obstacles off-road or handle tricky parking situations. Honda also plans to offer a range of accessories including rock sliders, an aluminum front scuff plate, and Molle boards to attach extra gear.
