When Acura unveiled the Nexera earlier this month, the company said the car was nothing more than a design concept. It previews the brand’s future styling language, with the automaker having no real plans to put the car into production. But Acura isn’t totally opposed to the idea.
The Nexera looks like a true sports car, with hidden lighting elements, butterfly doors, carbon fiber, and center-lock wheels—a first for the brand. It has smooth lines and a muscular profile, looking unlike any Acura before it.
We will see the concept’s elements transferred to Acura’s future models, but it might one day become a reality. According to Motor Trend, American Honda President and CEO Eiji Fujimara said:
‘I would like to do this car. I would like to do it with an engine, personally, but we will do what the customer wants, if that’s engine or hybrid or EV.’
Yasutake Tsuchida, the brand’s Acura creative director and vice president of design, was a bit blunt. He said, “Yes,” when asked if he had a vision to make a sports car like the Nexera.
What Acura Will Launch Instead
Sadly, the Nexera isn’t the next NSX. Instead, we will see the new styling first show up on the next RDX Hybrid, which will arrive within “a couple of years.”
The new design language is expected to roll out to the rest of the lineup after that. Bits of the styling might show up before the next generation of models arrive as Acura refreshes the models before their next-gen replacements.
Acura isn’t expected to replace the Integra until 2029. The current MDX will be around until 2031, while a new ADX will arrive a year later. Honda also has plans to launch 18 new or updated models by the end of the decade, some of which could wear the Acura badge.

Motor1’s Take: The Nexra is a truly stunning concept car. It looks futuristic and pushes the Acura brand in a new direction. It would make a statement for the brand if it ever entered production.
