Volkswagen is preparing to introduce its next-generation electric SUV soon. The electric Tiguan will serve as a successor to the ID.4 and ID.5, bringing more than just a new name.

Volkswagen ID.4 rebrands as the ID. Tiguan SUV

The ID.4 and ID.5 are core electric SUVs and among the most popular in Volkswagen’s global EV lineup.

Following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, the ID.4 and ID.5 are next in line for a complete overhaul, including a new name, style, and more.

As part of VW’s revamp, the electric SUVs will be rebranded and expected to be sold as the ID. Tiguan. Like the Polo and Cross, Volkswagen is using some of its best-selling nameplates as it moves away from its previous number (ID.3, ID.4, ID.5) system.

We’ve seen camouflaged prototypes several times leading up to its debut later this year, but a new video from German car reviewer Autogefühl gives us our closest look at the electric Tiguan so far.

The video offers a good look at the front and rear of the ID. Tiguan. As we’ve seen in past sightings, the electric Tiguan features a wider, more traditional SUV-like shape closer to that of the gas-powered model.

You can barely see it in the video, but recent sightings show the electric Tiguan with new door handles that pop out like a traditional SUV, replacing the flush style.

The video also doesn’t show the interior, which is expected to adopt Volkswagen’s new EV cabin design and updated infotainment system.

Starting with the ID.3 Neo, ID. Polo, and ID. Cross, Volkswagen is bringing back physical buttons for climate control and other commonly used functions based on customer feedback.

Volkswagen has yet to confirm any specific details, but the ID. Tiguan is expected to ride on its new MEB+ platform. Recent battery and electric drive updates should improve driving range and charging speeds.

For context, the current ID.4 (shown on the right above) uses an 82 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 291 miles in the RWD version. The AWD model drops to around 263 miles. Under WLTP conditions, the 2026 VW ID.4 has a range of up to 351 miles (566 km).

The electric Tiguan is expected to make its official debut next month and will serve as a successor to the ID.4 and ID.5.
