As EVs become capable of having brutal acceleration, which was once reserved for expensive and exotic machines, Lamborghini believes outright speed can no longer define a true supercar.
Product line director Paolo Racchetti says performance remains important, but driving dynamics and emotion are becoming even more significant.
“Speed is still an important part of performance, but it’s clear that it’s necessary, not sufficient, for a car to be called a super-sports car,” Racchetti said. “What a super-sports car must provide is not only acceleration and speed, but also emotion,” he added.
That philosophy explains Lamborghini’s commitment to hybrid powertrains. The Temerario combines electrification with a twin-turbo V8 capable of revving to 10,000 rpm, retaining the mechanical factor Lamborghini believes customers expect.
Hybridisation also allows engineers to broaden a car’s character. Racchetti says the technology can support everything from a grand tourer to rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations, while electronics make extreme performance easier and more confidence-inspiring to access.
“But maybe the most important thing is that we can emphasise emotion.”
