Porsche has come out with a new onboard charger for the Taycan that can potentially cut charging times at home in half. The charger is an AC 19.2-kw unit that can be swapped with the Taycan’s existing onboard charger, located between the cabin and front trunk. A compatible 19.2-kw capable Level 2 AC charger (240-volt) will be required at home, requiring a dedicated 100 amps. Porsche also offers its own unit, dubbed the Wall Charger Connect. Audi will build EVs at all of its global plants before 2030 ahead of a planned phase-out of internal-combustion models, the automaker said Thursday in a press release. The automaker will introduce only all-electric models globally beginning in 2026, and aims to phase out production of internal-combustion vehicles by 2033, but prior to that EVs and combustion models will be built side-by-side at existing Audi factories. Rivian recently previewed the hardware for the dual-motor powertrain it plans to begin offering for its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV alongside the existing quad-motor setup in the coming year. The company tweeted a short video “progress report,” in which principal drive unit design engineer Mason Verbridge said components were undergoing final validation testing. Chrysler will use the 2023 CES starting Jan. 5 in Las Vegas to provide a taste of new in-vehicle technology it may introduce in its future electric lineup. The automaker will present the Synthesis, a cabin concept that integrates AI-backed software systems sourced from parent company Stellantis, together with sustainable materials.
