Owing more on your car loan than the vehicle is worth is called being “upside down” on your loan, and unfortunately, it’s fairly common. According to July 2026 data from Kelley Blue Book’s parent company, Cox Automotive, negative equity was 2.69 percentage points higher than a year ago and remained higher than any monthly reading recorded from 2015 through 2019. The average car shopper right now faces a tough economy and high prices, with the average transaction price for a new vehicle sitting at $49,855 in July and hovering close to this level throughout 2026. In some cases, car…
California’s Ontario International Airport (ONT) has been awarded a $~4.15 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expand its zero emission infrastructure and add more electric ground support equipment (GSE). With the short distances driven at limited speeds under extreme loads, ground handling and support equipment (GHE/GSE) at airports present a nearly ideal use case for battery-electric vehicles. That’s a good thing, too. As demand for on-road fossil fuels drops, airports and airlines – historically responsible for about 4% Earth’s global warming – are becoming a bigger and bigger slice of a rapidly shrinking pie when it comes to the fossil fuel…
The bZ5 is about the size of a Tesla Model Y and much more high-tech than Toyota vehicles we are used to. 2027 Toyota bZ5 price, driving range, and specs Toyota’s joint venture, FAW-Toyota, first launched the bZ5 in China last June as part of its efforts to revamp the brand and compete with EV leaders like Tesla and BYD. Although it’s only been on sale for just over a year, Toyota introduced the updated 2027 bZ5 on Wednesday. The refreshed model is available in six variants with regular prices ranging from 129,800 yuan to 199,800 yuan, or around $19,500…
BYD Da Han flagship sedan (Source: Lu Tian/BYD) BYD announced that it has already installed 10,000 of its 1.5 megawatt “flash charging” stations, despite only starting earlier this year. The number puts it halfway to its lofty goal of 20,000 stations by year’s end – and just about on pace to hit it. The electric vehicle industry in China is advancing at a rapid pace, and one of the things that China is leading on is fast charging. Manufacturers outside of China have offered cars that can charge in as fast as 18 minutes, which is still plenty quick, especially…
A former Vancouver police sergeant with ALS accounts his journey to become a patient for Elon Musk’s Neuralink wireless brain-computer interface technology. “I’m texting you from my brain right now.” That was the first message Lee Marten sent after waking up from Neuralink surgery, five hours and one migraine after dozens of threads were stitched into his motor cortex. Marten, a former Vancouver police sergeant, is one of the first Canadian ALS patients to receive Neuralink’s N1 brain implant, and the 26th recipient overall. He tells his story in a first-person account published by Maclean’s. Marten recounts how…
Ford has recalled almost 5,000 examples of the current-generation (2024 – 2026) Mustang in Australia over a windscreen wiper fault that could affect visibility. According to Ford Australia’s recall notice, a manufacturing defect may cause the windscreen washing system to become inoperable, while the wipers could be limited to their highest-speed setting. The recall notice also says, “This could lead to poor visibility for the driver in certain conditions. Poor visibility may increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.” The recall affects close to 5,000 Mustangs. Owners of affected vehicles…
Photo: ChargePoint Santa Monica, California’s public Big Blue Bus fleet is getting 130 DC fast-charging ports as it works toward building an entirely electric fleet by 2032. The chargers are part of the city’s $56 million investment in electric transit infrastructure. ChargePoint will supply its Express Plus charging hardware and fleet management software, while power management company Eaton will provide the electrical equipment needed to deliver power across the depot. The project will be one of ChargePoint’s largest transit deployments to date. Powering an electric bus depot takes more than installing a row of chargers. The electrical system needs to…
Aptera’s will they/won’t they flirtation with production has gone on two decades. It was first founded in 2006, but it was liquidated at one point and went radio silent for a few years. But for most of the last 20 years, it’s promised a three-wheeled electric vehicle with solar panels for a roof, between 250-400 miles of range, and the ability to recoup about 40 miles of range from the sun. Yet, it hasn’t delivered a single vehicle. So you’d be forgiven for any skepticism about its promises. However, independent German company TÜV Rheinland recently tested out Aptera’s solar capabilities, and…

It’s too early in this new T-Roc’s model cycle to get a solid idea of specific reliability, but the Volkswagen brand needs to do more according to the results of the 2026 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, because the brand came in a rather disappointing 26th place out of 30 manufacturers. Owners weren’t happy with their cars’ running costs or the infotainment system’s user-friendliness. As ever, Volkswagen’s warranty coverage is only basic, with three years of cover for all its cars and a 60,000-mile distance cap, although you can extend the warranty at extra cost up to 100,000 miles. There’s…
