Audi has saved the most intriguing—and arguably, most American—of its four sphere concepts for last: an electric pickup.  Well, sort of. The Activesphere concept is “a master of metamorphosis,” as Audi puts it—a coupelike hatchback with an elongated roofline, in which the entire rear section folds horizontally, then opens up to a cargo bed that’s large enough for e-bikes or perhaps an ATV. A flush ski rack is integrated into the roof structure, and the suicide-style rear doors mean there’s no middle pillar.  The sphere concepts, presented over the past couple of years, include the Skysphere sports car, Grandsphere flagship,…

Cylindrical batteries are being considered by GM, according to a report from South Korea. Tesla is ramping up its new battery cells in Nevada for much more than the Semi. And will Tesla tease more about a Robovan, a Model 2, or something completely different in just over a month? This and more, here at DriftBreath Reports. Tesla announced a $3.6 billion expansion of its Nevada battery “Gigafactory” that it says will produce the Semi plus the company’s new-format 4680 battery cells at 100 gigawatt-hours annually—enough U.S.-made batteries for 1.5 million light-duty vehicles, it says. Lucid had lofty goals for 2022. It originally planned to build 20,000 vehicles during the year. But, due to supply chain issues and a shortage of parts, it had to revise down the target to between 12,000 and 14,000, and then again to between 6,000 and 7,000 units.
