The four-year-old Model 3’s LFP battery retained 92% health after nearly 78,000 miles. Its previous charging history was unknown, making the healthy result particularly reassuring. Charger data couldn’t reliably verify the result, so Tesla’s official battery-health score remains the best estimate. Most EV batteries age more gracefully than you might expect—certainly more so than those in Nissan Leafs—but their state of health can still make the difference between a used EV that’s a bargain and one that foreshadows a five-figure repair bill. Knowing an EV’s charging history and battery health percentage is vital when buying it used, which is why…

The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV is now on sale, starting at $34,995. The 2027 Kia EV3 starts at $29,890. On GM’s website, it still says the electric Equinox is “America’s most affordable 315+ mile range EV,” but is it really? Chevy Equinox EV vs Kia EV3 In the fine print, GM said the comparison is based on the MSRP of the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV versus competing EVs, so yes, for the 2026 model year it was. The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV is a carryover model, so not much is changing. The biggest update is a native NACS port that…

The itinerary sounded like the sort of journey that should still make an EV driver nervous: cross Romania, climb its highest mountains and drive the Transfăgărășan before returning to Bucharest. But I didn’t just want to see whether the iX3 could complete it—I knew it could. I wanted to see whether it could do so without forcing me to slow down, conserve energy, or plan the entire trip around charging stops. BMW Romania asked me if I would like to drive an iX3 from Bucharest in the south of the country all the way to Șona, a tiny village in…

The UK government is considering relaxing its landmark electric vehicle rules, even in the face of inflated oil prices, a recordbreaking year for temperatures and wildfires, and EV sales that are already rising fast enough to meet the government’s current target. Update 8/14: The government officially launched its consultation on EV rules today, even as PM Burnham was in West Midlands surveying wildfire damage exacerbated by climate change caused by gas-powered vehicles. UK’s electric vehicle targets have gone through a lot of back-and-forth over the years. They were originally set to target 100% new EV sales by 2040, but then…

Facebook Marketplace Folks, happy Friday, I don’t know if this week has been as exhausting for all of you as it has been for me, but I am zonked. Even last night’s climbing session took more out of me than it really should’ve, so I’m very much looking forward to a peaceful, restful weekend. I’m already getting started on it, sitting here petting my roommate’s cat as I pen this hallowed column.  My 30th birthday is coming up, and I’m giving all of you a present in advance of the date: This installment of Dopest, which includes so many true bangers that I genuinely agonized…

Here’s how to replace an engine air filter in seven simple steps. 1. Get the Correct Replacement Filter Engine air filters are not one-size-fits-all. Before you start, make sure you have the correct filter for your vehicle. Check your owner’s manual or use the year, make, and model lookup at an auto parts store or retailer. Many stores can also help you find the correct filter. 2. Locate…

Early Tesla Model S sedans have reached the most interesting stage of their lives. These cars, which were once worth six figures, can now be found for less than the price of a new Honda Civic. They still offer generous passenger and luggage space, effortless performance, and enough real-world range to work as everyday family cars. But most people want to know one answer before snapping one up: How has the battery held up? Most used car buyers likely assume that an old EV like an early Model S must have lost most of its range by now, and they…
