Chevrolet is taking electric performance off-road with the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, unveiled on Wednesday ahead of its participation in this month’s Mint 400. The legendary off-road race, held annually near Las Vegas, officially kicks off on Thursday with the first qualifying rounds.

The Silverado EV ZR2 will be fielded by the Hall Racing team in the Open Production EV class, with Chad Hall behind the wheel. Despite being a concept, approximately 98% of the build consists of production parts, Chevy said.

Chevy hasn’t announced plans for a Silverado EV ZR2, but it certainly looks like the automaker is seriously exploring the possibility. The automaker said its engineers will work closely with the Hall Racing team to analyze performance, durability, and capability, gathering valuable insights for future production vehicles and accessories.

One of the concept’s standout features is a three-motor powertrain delivering a combined 1,100 hp. Currently, the production Silverado EV has an output that tops out at 760 hp with a dual-motor powertrain in the RST trim. No details on the concept’s battery were revealed, but the RST comes with a 460-mile range estimate with its available Max Range battery (390 miles with the standard Extended Range battery).

The concept also boasts key off-road upgrades, including a lifted suspension, locking differentials, and underbody skid protection. It also debuts prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve semi-active dampers, enabling over 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel. Combined with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, the truck should have no issue handling the harsh desert conditions of the Mint 400.

While it’s unclear if a Silverado EV ZR2 will eventually hit showrooms, Chevy does have an off-road-oriented electric truck coming soon: the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss. Due this summer, it’s confirmed by Chevy to be coming with a factory-installed lift kit, 35-inch tires, red tow hooks, and a new Terrain Mode.
