Drive To Survive” season 7 arrives March 7 on Netflix

The seventh season of Netflix’s docuseries “Formula 1: Drive To Survive” hits the streaming service Mar. 7.

The release date, confirmed in a Feb. 7 post on X from Netflix’s official account, is one week before the 2025-season-opening Australian Grand Prix, giving viewers a chance to catch up on last season before the new one gets underway.

That should make for more entertaining viewing than many fans likely expected when the 2024 season got underway. With few changes to the rules or driver lineups, it was widely anticipated that Red Bull would continues its dominance and Max Verstappen would cruise to a fourth title.

While Verstappen did win the Drivers’ Championship—clinching it at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix with two races to go—he faced tougher competition, particularly from McLaren’s Lando Norris. And while Verstappen won nine races in 2024, that was a big decline from the record 19 wins he managed in 2019.

That was partly down to Red Bull’s loss of pace toward the middle of the season. That, along with lackluster performance by the team’s other driver, Sergio Perez, allowed McLaren to outdo Red Bull to take the Constructors’ championship—its first since 1998.

The 2024 season was also the last for several drivers—including fan favorite Daniel Ricciardo—and saw Lewis Hamilton sign off at Mercedes before heading to Ferrari for 2025. Hamilton’s final season with the team with which he once dominated F1 didn’t have many bright spots, but an emotional win at the 2024 British Grand Prix was one of them.

F1 management has said that “Drive To Survive” must prove that it adds value in order to continue, but it’s hard not to see value in a behind-the-scenes look at an F1 season with so many memorable highs and lows. The 2025 season should prove equally interesting, with Hamilton’s move to Ferrari and a number of new drivers joining the grid.
