Ford supercharges the Megazilla V-8 to over 1,000 hp

  • Ford has revealed the Megazilla 2.0, a supercharged 7.3-liter V-8 rated at over 1,000 hp
  • Ford said the engine is designed for competition use
  • For street use, Ford has a new supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 rated at over 800 hp

Ford has taken its already formidable Megazilla V-8 crate engine to the next level with the introduction of the supercharged Megazilla 2.0.

Unveiled on Thursday at Ford’s second annual motorsports season launch event held in Charlotte, North Carolina, the new engine is built for extreme performance, delivering enough grunt to rival hypercar powerplants as well as Mopar’s Hellephant crate engine.

Like its predecessor, the Megazilla 2.0 is based on Ford’s original Godzilla 7.3-liter V-8, but it benefits from a host of high-performance upgrades. It retains all the race-ready internals of the original Megazilla, including forged pistons and connecting rods, a steel crankshaft, ported and polished cylinder heads, and upgraded valve springs, and adds forced induction.

The forced induction comes in the form of a Gen 6 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. The original Megazilla develops approximately 615 hp, but the addition of the supercharger boosts output of the Megazilla 2.0 to over 1,000 hp, Ford said.

Ford hasn’t mentioned the weight, but the naturally aspirated Megazilla weighs around 673 pounds, and the addition of a supercharger will only add to that figure.

Ford said the Megazilla 2.0 was designed for competition use, like in desert racing trucks, drag racing builds, and other high-performance applications away from the road. For street builds, Ford introduced a new supercharged Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 crate engine on Thursday. The Coyote is found in multiple Ford products, and owners with the engine already installed can purchase the supercharger as a standalone upgrade from Ford.

The new supercharged crate engine uses the particular Coyote V-8 found in the Mustang Dark Horse, which is rated at 500 hp. With the added supercharger, Ford estimates the engine will deliver over 800 hp.

Both crate engines will be available in the fourth quarter of 2025 from Ford dealerships and the Ford Performance parts catalog. Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch.
