Jannarelly debuts Ælla-60 retro supercar with manual gearbox

  • Anthony Jannarelly has revealed his latest design, the Ælla-60 supercar
  • The supercar features a mid-mounted 473-hp V-8 mated to a manual transmission
  • Pricing starts at $896,000 and only 60 examples will be built

Talented car designer Anthony Jannarelly is back with a new project: a mid-engine supercar powered by a V-8 engine and equipped with a manual transmission. It also has a connection to Ferrari.

Jannarelly made a name for himself last decade with his own sports car developed from scratch, the retro-futuristic Design-1. Though a handful of cars were delivered to customers, the realities of marketing a car and meeting certification requirements made the project unviable.

While moonlighting as a designer for Caterham in recent years, Jannarelly eventually moved on from the Design-1 and founded the new company Art Machines by Anthony Jannarelly, whose first product is the Ælla-60.

The new supercar retains the stunning design of the Design-1 but wraps it around a donor aluminum chassis, believed to be from a Ferrari 360 Modena. Significant modifications have been made to achieve the Ælla-60’s design, which Jannarelly says draws inspiration from the Italian grand tourers of the 1960s. Not a single body panel is shared with the 360, and the Ælla-60 replaces the donor Ferrari’s conventional doors with more exotic butterfly-style doors.

Jannarelly quotes a peak output of 473 hp from the Ælla-60’s 3.6-liter V-8, which is roughly the same as the Ferrari 360’s original 3.6-liter V-8. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, and with a dry weight of just 2,491 pounds, Jannarelly claims 0-62 mph acceleration in as little as 3.5 seconds.

Despite the car’s lightweight focus, it still includes modern amenities such as air conditioning and smartphone connectivity.

Production will be handled by Podium Advanced Technologies, an Italian engineering company that has helped multiple teams secure class wins at Le Mans over the past decade. The firm also assisted Glickenhaus with its low-volume builds, including the 007 LMH race car.

A formal debut for the Ælla-60 is scheduled for the 2025 Rétromobile auto show, running Feb. 5-9 in Paris. Interested buyers will be able to reserve a build slot following the debut. Pricing starts at €865,000 (approximately $896,000), and Jannarelly has stated that at least five reservations are required before production can begin. If all goes to plan, the first deliveries will take place in 2026. Production will be limited to 60 units worldwide, with five special Founders’ Editions reserved for early adopters.
