Morgan Supersport revealed with sleek minimalist design

  • Morgan’s newest flagship model is the Supersport
  • The Supersport introduces an updated CXV platform but retains its predecessor’s powertrain
  • Pricing in the U.K. starts at 85,000 British pounds (approximately $110,000)

Morgan, the historic British sports car marque renowned for blending classic design with modern engineering, has unveiled its new flagship model: the Supersport.

The sleek sports car features an alluring, minimalist design and replaces Morgan’s previous flagship, the Plus Six, which ended production last year.

Order books are already open in the U.K., where the car starts at 85,000 British pounds (approximately $110,000). Morgan has not yet confirmed whether the Supersport will be available in the U.S., though the recent launch of the Plus Four here suggests the new flagship may also make the trip.

The Supersport is built on an updated version of Morgan’s CX-Generation platform, which debuted in the Plus Six in 2019. The revised version, known as the CXV platform, retains its predecessor’s bonded aluminum construction while introducing improvements in torsional rigidity (up 10%), suspension mounting point stiffness (up 100%), and steering response (up 13%).

All Supersports are open-top cars with an interchangeable roof system that allows owners to switch between a conventional convertible roof and a removable fixed hardtop. A carbon-composite hardtop is also available, which Morgan says further enhances vehicle rigidity. The Supersport is slightly heavier than the Plus Six but remains lightweight, tipping the scales at just under 2,580 pounds.

The engine, a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 producing 335 hp, carries over unchanged. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission (BMW enthusiasts will recognize the familiar shifter) that drives the rear wheels exclusively. Morgan quotes a 0-62 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 166 mph. The car rides on 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, and a limited-slip differential can be added as an option.

Despite its retro design, the Supersport offers plenty of modern conveniences. These include a wireless charging pad, a Sennheiser audio system, and a driver’s digital display—thankfully flanked by analog gauges. It wouldn’t be a proper Morgan without some wood in its construction, and wood is used here as a garnish for some of the aluminum framework.

Like all Morgans, production is handled in Malvern, U.K.
