Rivian’s CFO Is Leaving The Company

  • Rivian CFO Claire McDonough is leaving the company.
  • She held the role at the EV startup for close to six years.
  • The news comes as Rivian races to scale up production of the R2.

Rivian’s CFO, Claire McDonough, is leaving the EV startup at the end of October, the company announced on Thursday. She has held the role for close to six years and is leaving Rivian to take the CFO spot at GE Vernova, a manufacturer of energy equipment, she said in a LinkedIn post.

Rivian’s vice president of finance, Derek Mulvey, will be appointed interim CFO as the company searches for McDonough’s replacement, the automaker said.

During McDonough’s tenure, Rivian went public, brought its first three vehicles to market, and struck a key technology joint venture with the Volkswagen Group.

“Together, we launched the R1T, R1S, and our commercial van, drove technology innovation and partnerships, built our go-to-market operations, and positioned the company for global scale and profitability with the launch of R2,” McDonough said on LinkedIn. “Being part of taking Rivian from an ambitious vision to a category-defining enterprise has been the highlight of my career.”

Her exit comes as Rivian faces a new challenge: scaling up its first vehicle with the potential for mainstream success. The R2 is what Rivian hopes will bring it a new level of manufacturing scale and, eventually, profits. Rivian started delivering the R2 to customers this year and expects the crossover to help it notch its biggest year of sales yet: 65,000-70,000 vehicles.
