Updated Volvo XC60 arrives with refreshed exterior and cabin

Volvo on Tuesday unveiled an updated version of its popular XC60 compact crossover, ensuring the model remains competitive as the automaker prepares to introduce an electric alternative, the EX60, next year.

Despite debuting in the 2018 model year, the current XC60 will continue to be sold alongside the new electric model, catering to buyers who prefer traditional powertrains.

The XC60 has received a series of updates over the years, including a mild refresh for the 2022 model year. However, the latest enhancements, currently anticipated to debut in the U.S. for the 2026 model year, are more substantial, keeping the SUV fresh as Volvo expands its electrified lineup.

The exterior updates are subtle yet refined. There’s a redesigned grille with a pattern borrowed from the updated XC90 introduced for the 2025.5 model year. Other changes include darkened taillights and the addition of new color and wheel options.

Inside, the XC60 boasts a larger 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, now elevated above the dashboard for improved visibility and accessibility. This system runs on Volvo’s latest infotainment software, built on Google’s Android operating system, and is powered by a more advanced Qualcomm chip. Volvo claims this new processor makes the system twice as responsive as before, while a 21% higher pixel density enhances display clarity.

In addition to the technological improvements, Volvo has introduced new sustainable materials in the cabin. Premium options such as a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, noise-reducing laminated windows, and an available air suspension system further enhance comfort and refinement.

Volvo has not announced any powertrain updates for the XC60. The current U.S. offerings include a 247-hp gas-powered B5 variant and a 445-hp plug-in hybrid T8 model.

The updated XC60 is one of five new or refreshed Volvo models arriving this year. Earlier in February, the automaker unveiled the rugged EX30 Cross Country, and additional models expected soon include an updated S60 sedan, a new ES90 electric midsize sedan, and a long-range plug-in hybrid tailored for the Chinese market. The current S60 exits the U.S. market after the 2025 model year and isn’t expected to return, though.
